THEGIFTOFTHEREIGNOFGODMatthew’s Gospel today expands on Isaiah’s balladconsiderably. A comparison with the same story inMark’sGospelclearlyshowsusthatheretheauthorisbusy teaching this community of Jewish Christians:“ThisisastoryaboutIsraelalongtimeago;thisisalsoa story about Jesus and the skeptical leaders.”Jesus asmuch as told these Jewish leaders that theywerethetenantswho irststonedtheirownprophets.And he told the leaders they were the tenants whowould soon even dispose of him—Jesus—and, indoingso,would forfeit their privileged place ofpresenting to the world the promised Messiah.“And this,” says Matthew’s Gospel, “is a story aboutyou,theinheritorsofwhatwas irstofferedtoIsrael.”ThereignofGodwas irstopenedtoIsraelandisnowgiventothewholeworld,butitmustbereceivedasagift. Dear Parishioners,

Our 17th Annual Golf Outing in memory of Joseph Moran was another great success thanks to the

generosity and dedication of our parishioners! I thank all of you so very much for supporting this wonderful

event! I thank the Moran family for allowing us to have this event and for all the support that they give to our

wonderful parish of O.L.A. We will always keep Joseph Moran in prayer. A very special word of thanks to the

members of the golf outing committee (Harry D’Onofrio, Rich O’Mara, William Moran, Bobby Moran, Matt

Clavin, Matt Sanabria, Alex Amatore, Suzanne Grimaldi) for all the time and hard work that went into the

success of this event. We could not have done this without you!! I also thank Maria Fusco, Stephanie Sanabria

and Rosemarie Amatore for helping out at the event as well. You all did a great job and I thank you again.

Starting Monday, October 5th, we will have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our church, Monday-

Friday. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed and remain on the altar after the 6:45am Mass to 2:00pm when

Benediction will take place. We need at least two people in the church during this time. This will be such a

blessing to our parish.

Next weekend the Bishop has asked that we take up a collection on behalf of the Holy Land.

This collection usually takes place on Good Friday but our churches were closed due to the Covid pandemic. I

thank you in advance for your support!

Desde el lunes, 5 de octubre, tendremos Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento en nuestra iglesia de

lunes a viernes. El Santísimo Sacramento será expuesto inmediatamente después de la Misa de las

6:45am y continúa en el altar hasta la Bendición a las 2:00pm. Necesitamos que estén presentes al

menos dos personas durante este horario. Esto será una gran bendición para nuestra parroquia.

La próxima semana nuestro Obispo ha pedido que hagamos una colecta en nombre de la Tierra Santa.

Esta colecta usualmente se realiza cada viernes Santo, pero nuestras iglesias estuvieron cerradas debido

al Covid-19. Me adelanto en agradecerles su apoyo.

ARISE/WHY CATHOLIC/BELIEVE In the spirit of renewal & hope during this unprecedented time, the Arise program will continue for the fifth year in Advent 2020 and Lent 2021. Pat & Mike Cholewka will be hosting their nine-week group where they left off in the book, Believe, Chapter 4, continuing on Thursdays, October 15 to December 17 in the Msgr. Cavanagh room from 9:30am to 11:00am. Social distancing will be observed. All are welcome to join. Please call the rectory, 718-836-7200, if this is your first time and wish to attend. Other groups will continue in October as well. An announcement will be made from the altar as well as placed in the bulletin. All in the parish have benefited from the goodness of one another.
