CHURCH OF ST. THERESA, BRONX
DECEMBER 15, THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
For most of us Christmas is a time of happiness. We have learned to love virtually everything about it—the lights, the
giving and receiving of gifts, the fellowship of friends and family. Year after year, we anticipate this season with excitement and
remember it with fondness, long after it is gone.
But in the midst of all this happiness, we need to remember that for some people Christmas is one of the loneliness times of
the year. For some Christmas festivities remind them of broken relationships, and the togetherness of others serves to
accentuate their own sense of aloneness.
Loneliness is without question, one of life’s most painful experiences. And in some form, at some time, every one of us has
to deal with it. Young people often feel the loneliness of being misunderstood. Many other people feel the loneliness of having
out-lived most of their family and contemporaries. Those who are poor feel the loneliness of need. Many in broken homes feel
the loneliness of rejection. Those who have lost a loved one feel that ultimate loneliness that comes with death.
So the Christmas season can for many people underlie these feelings of loneliness. But strangely enough, it also has a
special message for us all especially for those who feel alone. When the angel spoke to both Joseph and Mary, he gave the Baby
to be born two important names. The first, of course, was Jesus, the name with which we are most familiar. But the other was
Emmanuel, a Hebrew name which means “God is with us”. In other words, Mary’s Baby Boy was God’s way of saying to this
world and to each and every one of us, “you are never alone”.
Everyone of us needs to hear that Christmas message. God is not only telling the world of His presence in the universe, but
also He is telling us of His desire to be present in each and every one of our lives. God wants to be present with each of us,
individually and personally. Christ not only came into this world; He also came to people, one at a time, and shared with them
the glad news: “God is with us”. This of course does not mean that we will never be lonely, but it does mean that we will never be
alone. God is always there.
This is the reality of Christmas. This is a great and awesome truth. But we cannot lead shabby, selfish lives, and then hope
to stroll casually into His presence. He is with us always; but if we would know the joy of His presence and company, we must
approach it with seriousness.
We can always find casual friendship almost any night in any gathering in any town. But we can enjoy it for an hour or for
an evening; and then we will walk away from it just as lonely as when we arrived.
What we need is someone who really loves and cares, and that’s what we have in Jesus—not a casual friend but a loving
and constant companion. This is the great and wonderful message of the Christmas season. So please prepare yourself to receive
this reality into your personal lives. It will be the best gift you will receive this Christmas 2013!
ST. THERESA’S GIVING TREE
The Giving Tree is our parish opportunity for sharing during this
Christmas season. The tree will have gift tags hanging on it and
will be located at the Altar of St. Joseph. The gifts are collected
for the needy. We ask you to remove a gift tag, purchase the item
(new items only) and return it UNWRAPPED with the gift tag on
it and place it under the tree. Today is the last day to bring in a
gift if you took a tag off the tree.
ST. THERESA OUTREACH PROGRAM
St. Theresa Outreach Program is sponsoring a Coat and Toy
Drive. All coats that are donated will go to the toddlers with
learning disabilities that attend the BOLD school here on St.
Theresa Avenue. We are asking for boys and girls new coats –
sizes 3T thru 5T and also hats, gloves and scarves. Please drop all
your donations at the rectory office as soon as possible.
Also we are sponsoring a Toy Drive for children at St. Joseph
School for the Deaf. We are in need of new unwrapped toys for
boys and girls ages 5 thru 14. Our goal is to donate 100 toys so
that every child will receive a gift. Please help us reach this goal.
All toys can be dropped off at the church or rectory.
THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Help Us Raise Money with Little or no Effort:
We are collecting Box Tops for Education. If you cut the box tops
off your items and bring them to church on Sunday just leave
them in the back of church and we will make sure we get them.
For each box top collected we receive 10 cents.
Do you shop at Target, Shoprite, Stop and Shop, Pathmark or
Food Town sign up on their website or call the school office for
help. Every time you shop they donate a percentage to the school
at no cost to you!
ADVENT/CHRISTMAS PROJECT

PEASE HELP YOUR PARISH! We are most grateful to all of you who have so generously
increased your weekly Sunday contribution. Please remember
that this weekly increase is most needed for St. Theresa in
building and improving our beloved parish. We are grateful to all
of you whose generous response has enabled us to better meet our
weekly expenses. However we are still far from that goal. Our
neighboring parishes are receiving weekly Sunday contributions
that exceed our weekly Sunday contributions by $2,000 each
week! So we ask that you please continue to help us in order to
keep St. Theresa such a vital, loving, growing parish. If you have
not yet increased your weekly Sunday contribution, please pray
about what more you can give. We really need your weekly help.

It should be called the Federal Fresh Start Law: it provides a Government sanctioned forgiveness of debt with no tax ramifications. It takes about 2 years to re-establish your credit after bankruptcy. It’s not part of the problem, it’s part of the solution to raising your credit score. There’s no longer any social stigma when it comes to getting bankruptcy relief. Our
economy is not your fault. Don’t let the Banking Industry scare you away from getting the debt relief you are entitled to under Federal Law. Call for a Free telephone consultation. Admitted to practice in 1982.
