A 61 rank organ stands in the choir loft, it is 40
feet high with over 3400 pipes and has a double-
sided facade; the oval casework is made of
mahogany and the horizontal trumpets are
polished brass. This new pipe organ represents
the most sophisticated technological design in
pipe organ building today. Its tonal and visual
beauty make it a gift to our community that will
last for generations.
The baptismal font, lectern and altar are made of
granite, to signify solidity. The placement of the
baptismal font at the entrance of the church
reminds us that it is through the waters of Baptism
that we enter the Church, and the sacramental life
of the Church is opened to us. The altar has been
placed directly under the intersecting point
between the nave and the transept, to indicate
that the Eucharist is at the center of our life of
worship. The top of the altar is purposely smaller
than the base itself to remind us that it is both a
banquet table and a place of sacrifice. In this way,
we commemorate the events of Holy Thursday
and Good Friday whenever we celebrate Mass.
A two-sided tabernacle is located in a central and
prominent position in the sanctuary. Behind the
wall that holds the tabernacle is the Blessed
Sacrament Chapel where exposition may take
place. Statues of our Blessed Mother and St.
Joseph flank this area. The Stations of the Cross,
a traditional devotion, are depicted in Limoges
enamel and are hung around the main nave of the
church. Two quiet rooms may be found at the side
entrances; the Reconciliation Chapels, in two of
the towers; and the sacristy and work areas are
set apart in the east end of the church.
We have made the ultimate effort to have our
church speak to us of the deeper, mystical
knowledge of the faith, and of the human soul's
yearning for the mystery of transcendent beauty.
In the end, we hope that this church, which will
speak for generations of who the Community of
Epiphany is in the Third Millennium, who we
believe God is, and what value and significance He
has in our lives. We hope that as you continue to
walk into our church, you will leave the world
outside and focus on the reality of your
dependence in God.
The Design of Our Church on it’s 16th Anniversary.
There are many ways to approach design and
execution in architecture. In the design of
our church, our goal was to create a building for
the glory of God and a space that would offer
our faith community the opportunity to worship
God in an appropriate atmosphere where
the mysteries of God are recalled and
celebrated...for Word and Eucharist, for initiation
and reconciliation, for interaction and active
participation. We wished also to make this
building a focal point of the community and a
visible sign of the reign of God.
The campanile in our midst is the Lord's call to us,
both in sound and sight, to prayer and worship.
The bell tower is a symbol of the community of
Epiphany and the power of our union in His name.
The promenade offers a suitable, peaceful
approach to the church. The inside of the church
is a sacred place; we open its doors at the base of
a Gothic arch. The floor plan is the traditional
cruciform representing the Body of Our Lord on
the cross. Christ's head is the apse, the seat of the
tabernacle. The transepts are His extended arms
reaching out to everyone in sacrificial love. At the
crossing is His heart, the center of the church and
where the altar is placed. The character of the
church is highlighted by the height, the light and
the sight lines that align the baptismal font, the
altar and the tabernacle.
The building consists of a steel, glass and stone
structure with four towers flanking the sanctuary
at the intersection of the nave and transept. A
significant feature of the building is that no two
walls touch each other at any point; their
connection is through glass, thus making it a
floating edifice anchored only by the four towers.
Lattice woodwork forms the ceiling. The building
is 23,300 square feet, measuring 243 feet long,
165 feet wide and an exterior height of 72 feet for
the naves and 82 feet at the towers; the interior
height is 68 feet. Seating capacity is 1000.
The four towers which support and anchor the
structure represent the four Evangelists and the
bronze statues of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
remind us that our Church is built on the four
Gospels. The stained glass cross depicts in
symbols the actions of Holy Thursday, Good
Friday and Holy Saturday.

STAINED GLASS CROSS
As the Old Testament speaks of the temple, the church is to be the place of glory and, as such too, the place where man's cry of distress is brought to the ear of God. The church must not settle for what is merely comfortable and serviceable at the parish level; she must, by glorifying the Creator, elicit the glory of the cosmos itself, making it also glorious, beautiful, habitable, and beloved."
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Head of the Congregation for the Faith,
speaking about the building of churches.
One of the most beautiful items in our new church is the stained-glass cross in the back wall behind the sanctuary. This cross contains the symbols depicting the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday). Viewing the window from the bottom upward we can see the grapes, the wheat, the chalice and the bread representing the Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday. Moving upward, the beginning of the path to Calvary is symbolized by the whip, the nails, the Roman soldier's spear, the dice, the garment of Christ to be gambled, and the reed with hyssop.
At the center of the cross is the Greek lettering, IHS (Jesus Savior of Men) which is surrounded by the Crown of Thorns in purple. The left and right sides of the cross symbolize the outstretched arms of Christ. From left to right, we can see the darkness at the time of His death represented by the eclipse of the sun and the cloud cover of the moon. At the top of the cross, the lettering in Latin, INRI (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). This title was also written in Hebrew and Greek by the Romans

JUST ANOTHER MYSTERY
What makes God so merciful, powerful, interesting, forgiving and above all loving is that God is filled with mysteries. He keeps us always wondering what is going to happen next. One of the most fascinating mysteries about Jesus Himself is that when He was born to Mary, He had two equal entities….one human and the other divine. Some ask… “How could He have two different entities at the same time? He was God, and there is no other answer.”…Just another mystery. As a little boy, Jesus played, laughed, smiled and sat on His mother’s lap like other children. Most likely, Joseph taught Jesus the skills of carpentry, and possibly read to Him at night. Jesus was no different in appearance and make-up than any of the other children in the neighborhood. But there was one very big difference. He was also divine. He was God…Just another mystery. As Holy Week approaches next week, have you ever wondered just how Jesus as a man must have felt knowing He was soon to be imprisoned, tortured, scourged and crucified. His humanity made Him feel apprehensive and afraid. That’s the reason why, before the soldiers captured Him, He went to a place called Gethsemane where there was a garden to pray. He took a few disciples with Him. St. Matthew tells us…Grief and sorrow came over him. Jesus then said “The sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me.” He then looked over to his disciples, but they had fallen asleep. Then, Jesus went a little farther on, threw Himself face downward on the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering from me! Yet, not what I want, but what you want.” Imagine God talking to God…Just another mystery. None of us want to be sick, sorrowful, treated unjustly, and above all, none of us want to die. Why? Because we are human. God, therefore, in His humanity suffered brutally on the cross, and died for our sins. He did all these things for us so that we will truly never die, but live forever with Him in Heaven as long as we are faithful to God and as long as we live,,,Just another mystery.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
We invite all women, who have done
the Emmaus retreat, to join us at our
Weekly Emmaus Gathering.
Our next gathering will be on Friday, March 23 from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM
at the Parish Center.
Lent is like a long 'retreat' during which we can turn back into ourselves and listen to the voice of God, in order to defeat the temptations of the Evil One. It is a period of spiritual 'combat' which we must experience alongside Jesus, not with pride and presumption, but using the arms of faith: prayer, listening to the word of God and penance. In this way we will be able to celebrate Easter in truth, ready to renew the promises of our Baptism. - Pope Benedict XVI

ANNOUNCEMENTS
THE PONTIFICAL GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION
Once each year every Catholic Church in the United States takes up a Special Collection for the support of Christians and the Holy Shrines in the Holy Land. Traditionally, it is known as the Good Friday Collection. As we did last year, we will take up this collection on Palm Sunday instead of Good Friday. It is still for the same purposes as always and very worthwhile supporting. Many Christians depend on this collection for their lives. Why change the collection to Palm Sunday? Simply because it is difficult to find the right moment for it in the Good Friday services. Good Friday is such a solemn day that it seems appropriate to move this good deed to a different day. So, we will have a Special Collection next Sunday and everyone is invited to support the Holy Shrines and the Christians in the Holy Land. There are envelopes in the pews. Please take an envelope placed in the pews for this purpose and return it with your donation next weekend on Saturday, March 24 or Sunday, March 25.
The Cross Room
The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. "Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear." The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then open that other door and pick out any cross you wish." The man was filled with relief. "Thank you, Lord," he sighed, and he did as he was told. Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large the tops were not visible. Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. And the Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross your just brought in."
What a touching reminder of a lesson we all need to learn and relearn! When life's problems seem overwhelming, look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself fortunate.
