You might be thinking in your life circumstances, “how can this be?” That question may even mean something different for each and everyone one of you reading this right now. For me, I have asked that question more times than I can count in my life. How can my future work out? How can God get me through this time of trial? How can I fix this thing that seems to be broken in my life? Whatever your question might currently be, the answer is al-ways; Jesus Christ. Our Blessed Mother asks this question to the Angel Gabriel in Luke’s Gospel today. She says

with great uncertainty, “how can this be?” Mary’s faith was stronger than her human uncertainty. She did not have all the answers but she new in her heart to say yes to God, no matter how impossible the circumstances might have seemed. Some-times we get overwhelmed with the how and why in our lives and forget who to turn to for strength in navigating our daily jour-

ney. God is waiting to open the next door we need to walk into. Perhaps if you find yourself in a time of struggle or uncertainty right now, you need to turn toward our Lord in faith and ask the Blessed Mother to be your guide! Remember that our journey here on earth is not a journey meant to be perfect, but one meant to be aimed toward our Lord Jesus. That means that we can handle rough waters and uncertain days when our faith is nourished and we give God the time to be our focus each day. This advent may seem a little cloudy to us this year but let us remember that these times of “wilderness” lead to great new roads in our journey of life. All God asks of us is to turn toward him in great faith. May this advent season lead you all to the promises of our Lord Jesus Christ in your lives and may God grant you grace and peace as you prepare for the coming of our Lord this Christmas!

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT - DECEMBER 20, 2020 PAGE 4

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Corner

Fourth Sunday of Advent readings: 2 Samuel 7:8-16; Psalm 89; Luke 1:26-38

Prayer of the Day: God, you chose ordinary people, common people, to make a home for Jesus. We want to make a home for him in our hearts; give us the love to do this, and let him be our brother, forever and ever.

The readings this week focus on 3 things: God’s love is faithful! Mary will give birth to a son. Holy is his name! The first reading

has God talking to King David and making promises to him. Read it carefully. Do you see them? The most important one is that a member of his house would be a great king and his kingdom would las forever. God says he has always been with him no matter where he has gone. God promised to be with him always, will be treated like a son and God’s love will never be taken away from

him. This promise was fulfilled when Mary gave birth to Jesus, the Son of God…and he will be the ruler from the family of David. Read Luke 1:26-38 it will explain it further. An angel came to Mary and told her she would be the mother of the Son of God. She was very young and was told this. How do you think she felt? Do you think she was afraid? Do you think she was confused? Read

the story again, and this time see if you can see Mary’s feelings. God chose Mary since she was the perfect person to be the Mother of Jesus. She did not completely understand what was going to happen, and yet she said yes, she would become the Mother of God. She took a leap of faith as they say. Mary was an ordinary person with an ordinary life until she said yes to God. Then she

became extraordinary. Let us all try to be more like Mary and say “yes” to God even when we are unsure of what will happen and be a servant to God as Mary was.

Behind the Scene with the Building and Grounds Committee

Frank Johns helped us move an item to the DONE column in Glen Campbell by removing the glass door and storing it in the furnace room. While he was there he adjusted the timing for the lights along the sidewalk so they come on earlier to light the way to evening Mass. Thank you Frank!

And John Hardesty also helped move the sign project along towards completion by meeting with the painter/constructor to finalize the details. Thank you, John!

Also, Brian Kalanavich helped by putting up two signs in the Ernest Parking Lot – “Authorized Vehicles Only”. We hope to discour-age large trucks from turning around in the lot and preserve the surface, or at least have no more damage to it for now. Thank you, Brian!

Just a reminder: please consider checking the list available at each site to see if there might be any little job that you can help with over the winter months – just as Frank, John, Brian, and Wimp and Pat have done. Please let John Hardesty ([email protected] or 724-388-0607) know which job you are working on so that the project lists can be updated. Also, please contact any of the Buildings and Grounds Committee members to report something that isn’t working quite right. Thank you for your help in these areas.

It’s hard to believe that this is the Fourth Week of Advent and Christmas will be upon us later this week. And so, a very Merry and Blessed Christmas to everyone from the Committee!

Please continue to pray for all those affected by the corona virus – there are so very many everywhere!

Thank you always for the support you give to us by your prayers, donations to the project funds and any help you can give to the pro-jects that need done.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Corner Christmas Day readings: Isaiah 9:1-2, 5-7, Psalm 96, Luck 2:1-20

Prayer of the day: God in heaven, you never forget we need you, and that is why you sent your Son, Jesus, to be born as a baby like one of us. We thank you for such a tremendous gift and praise Jesus, who is mighty God and Prince of Peace, now and forever.

There are many readings that are used for Christmas Day, but these readings are usually heard at midnight Mass The first reading talks about people seeing a great light. Who do you think this great light is? Yes, it is Jesus and he has many names. He has been called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, One Who Lives Forever, Prince of Peace, but most familiar is Son of God. How do you think he felt being the Son of God? It was a great responsibility and yet he was willing to fulfil that role. The Gospel reading from Luke is one we are all very familiar with as well. It starts talking about the census being taken and Mary and Joseph needing to trav-el to “be counted” as part of the family of David. How would you feel if you got to “your town” and yet no one had room for you? I can’t imagine that was a good feeling, and yet that is where Jesus was born. The angels announced his arrival and the shepherds came to see him. All were amazed at this child. The angels were singing “Glory to God in heaven and peace to all people of earth. Today a Savior is born for you, Christ the Lord!” These readings tell us that God’s great love for the world gave us the greatest gift we could ask for...Jesus Christ. How can you share this love during the Christmas Season? Merry Christmas to you!

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT - DECEMBER 20, 2020 PAGE 5

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS - This year because of the current situation, we will be accepting donations of red & white poinsettias for our parish’s Christmas decorative

efforts. If you would like to participate, please bring either red or white poinsettias to any of the 5 churches or the social hall worship site. Please place them at the back of the church so the volunteers decorating can arrange as needed. Poinsettias may also be dropped off at the parish office for distribution. If you are unable to physically donate poinsettias of this nature, feel free to use our online Christmas Flowers envelope or your physical envelope to help offset the costs. Donations may be given in memory of a deceased loved one, the sick, your own intention, etc. Three special Masses will be celebrated on Christmas Day for all who gave and their intentions.

ERNEST SITE DECORATING - Help is needed at the Ernest site hanging the Christmas decorations. Please talk with Jerry Shipe after mass or call him at 724-493-

5501 to let him know that you are able to help with this task. Thank you for your stewardship on this project!

Project Snowman

Project Snowman is asking for your help to provide Christmas cards to nursing home residents. Their goal

is to make sure nursing home residents feel cared for at this time of the year especially since they haven’t been able to re-ceive visitors due to COVID. If you would like to send a card to a resident, please follow these simple guidelines: cards can be handmade or store bought, general greeting message, for either male or female resident. Sign the card with your first name only, & drop into the collection basket or at the parish office. On the outside envelope write “Resident”. These need to be returned by Dec. 21st as they will be delivered to the nursing home Dec. 22nd & 23rd. Thank you for your help with this project.

All Faith Formation Classes online

Starting in January, there will NOT be any in-person faith formation classes. The Diocese has recommend-

ed that faith formation be online/virtual even the sacramental preparation classes. Parents whose students are receiving Sacraments this year will be contacted with the information they need for their children to go online. The other grades will contin-ue as they have been online.
