Pastor Transi"on
Father John Paul Erickson will begin at Transfigura%on on Monday, July 2. He is currently the Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in St. Paul. Blessed Sacrament Church learned about his transfer on the weekend of May 26 and 27, and have a much shorter window of %me to work through the transi%on process. Please pray for the parishioners of Blessed Sacrament, Father Erickson, and the Pastor who will be assigned to Blessed Sacrament as they prepare to say goodbye to Father Erickson and prepare to welcome their new Pastor.
Parish Staff is busy preparing for Father Erickson’s arrival. The Archdiocese supplies us with a checklist to use as we prepare. Father Erickson has visited the rectory and is happy with his soon-to-be home. Phil Stoffel is working on several projects at the rectory: replacing flooring in a couple of rooms, sealing basement walls, pain%ng, and bathroom repairs. If you have skills that could help Phil complete these projects by the end of June, please contact him at 651-501-2245 or pstoffel@transfigura%onmn.org. Gretchen Sonnen helped prepare a Welcome Binder that we will give to Father Erickson to introduce him to the Parish. It has our most recent parish directory, a list of parish staff, a school yearbook, the past couple of bulle%ns, a copy of the new parishioner welcome booklet, a July calendar of events, a list of Mass and Confession %mes, informa%on on the rectory, a list of restaurants and grocery stores in the area, and an overview of how staff manages liturgies and sacraments. Father Erickson had an opportunity to meet church and school staff this past week, but will do most of the work in ge<ng to know staff and the opera%ons of the parish a=er he begins on July 2.
Look for a message from Father Erickson in next weekend’s bulle%n, and please join the parish for his welcome weekend at Transfigura%on on July 7 and 8. There will be treats and fellowship a=er all Masses. If you have ques%ons about the transi%on please contact me at 651-501-2209 or eethier@transfigura%onmn.org.
Summer Weekday Building and Office Hours
With summer quickly approaching, we will be changing the hours that the building is open during the week. Beginning the week of June 18, the building will be open on Mondays and Fridays un%l 9:00 p.m., and Tuesday through Thursday un%l 4:00 p.m. The Parish Office is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays. Please remember that a Church staff member is available on weekends at the Gathering Space desk to assist you if you can’t make it to the office during the week.

MASS INTENTIONS
KIOSK HIGHLIGHT SAVE THE DATES
In 20 Answers: Mary you’ll
find smart, solid answers to
these ques"ons and many
more. From the cross, as His
mission of redemp"on
reached its climax, Jesus gave
us Mary to be our mother.
In 20 Answers: Mary you’ll
find biblical evidence for
Marian doctrine and
devo"on, answers to common objec"ons to Catholic
teachings about Mary, and guidance on how to
imitate Christ—which we should do in all things—
by loving and honoring his mother.
WE NEED YOU!
From Gretchen Sonnen,
Director of Parish Life & Communica!ons
It’s no secret around here that our Funeral Luncheons
are an incredible ministry provided by parishioners.
This service isn’t offered at many other Catholic Churches
anymore because volunteers are hard to come by. We
don’t want that to become the case at Transfigura"on!
Martha Praska works with the families of the deceased to
plan and prepare the Mass and Luncheon. She makes many
phone calls to find callers for food (salads and desserts) and
volunteers for the luncheon itself.
Right now, we’re in great need of addi"onal Food Callers.
These volunteers receive a list of parishioners and are
usually asked to find 5 salads and 5 desserts. We currently
have 5 food callers and are looking for an addi"onal 5
callers so that callers (and the parishioners on their list)
aren’t overwhelmed when funerals are scheduled. The
"me that it takes to make phone calls is between 1-2
hours per funeral.
Please consider volunteering for this wonderful ministry
that aids families in their "me of grief. If you are able to
volunteer, please contact me.
True charity requires courage: let us overcome the fear
of ge!ng our hands dirty so as to help those in need.
- Pope Francis

Each Mass at Transfigura"on is offered for the inten"on
of someone. Masses are filled for the remainder of the
2018 calendar year.
The Parish Office will not receive the 2019 Mass
Inten"on Calendar un"l July 1. At that "me, please call
or visit Martha Praska at the Church Office to
request a Mass for a deceased or living family
member or friend.
Guidelines for Mass Inten"ons:
1. It is permissible to have mul"ple Masses said for the
same inten"on (person).
2. We do not take the same Mass inten"on more than
once in the same month.
3. We will only take the same inten"on at a weekend
Mass every six months.
4. Masses may not be offered for more than one
inten"on (person), unless it would be for a husband
and wife, or siblings of the same last name.
There is no charge for a Mass inten"on. The suggested
dona"on is $7/Mass. Free Mass cards are available upon
request. The cards may be given as a gi' to the family of
the deceased or living person for whom the Mass is
offered. For example, if Jane Doe passes away, a Mass
can be offered for her and a card can be given to Jane’s
husband, Joe, to let him know that a Mass has been
offered on Jane’s behalf.
*Please note that some inten!ons are repeated in 2018
due to the Mass schedule being changed this past winter.

LITURGY HIGHLIGHT
As a con!nua!on of our discussion of the Liturgy, we
again refer to the Catechism of the Catholic Church
(CCC 1069; 1070) to define for us what the word
“Liturgy” means:
“The word ‘liturgy’ originally meant a ‘public work’ or
a ‘service in the name of/on behalf of the people.’
In Chris!an tradi!on it means the par!cipa!on of
the People of God in ‘the work of God.’ Through
the liturgy, Christ, our redeemer and high priest,
con!nues the work of our redemp!on in, with, and
through His Church. In the New Testament the word
‘liturgy’ refers not only to the celebra!on of divine
worship but also to the proclama!on of the Gospel
and to ac!ve charity. In all of these situa!ons it is
a ques!on of the service of God and neighbor. In a
liturgical celebra!on the Church is servant in the
image of her Lord, the one ‘leitourgos’; she shares in
Christ's priesthood (worship), which is both prophe!c
(proclama!on) and kingly (service of charity).”
A key take-away here is the par!cipa!on of the
People of God in “the work of God, as an act of charity
and service of God and neighbor. One of our greatest
Liturgical Ministry needs at present is Sacristans for
all Mass !mes. Teenage boys who have received
Confirma!on, as well as any men of the parish who
would like to assist with Mass, are encouraged to
contact Shantel Schallenkamp to learn more about
the role of the sacristan, and how you can share in
this vital need. Sacristans aged 16 and older are paid
for weekend Masses. Watch the bulle!n in the
coming weeks for more informa!on on the role of
the Sacristan.
SUMMER YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES
It’s not too late to register your child or grandchild for one
or more of our summer programs here at Transfigura!on.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
On Monday, June 4, parishioners and friends of
Transfigura!on par!cipated in a day-long build on a
Habitat for Humanity home. Families in need of decent,
affordable housing apply for homeownership with their
local Habitat for Humanity.
Each local Habitat’s family selec!on commi#ee selects
homeowners based on three criteria:
-The applicant’s level of need.
-Their willingness to partner with Habitat.
-Their ability to repay a mortgage through an
affordable payment plan.
As part of their willingness to partner, Habitat ’s
homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own
labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers
and other Habitat homeowners.
We’re grateful to the Couples for Christ group for
providing coffee and lunch for the 15 workers, and to
everyone else who made our work day at Habitat such a
success. A 2nd collec!on will be taken up this summer
for Habitat for Humanity. Look for more informa!on in
future bulle!ns.
The next Young Adult Women’s Group will meet
on Thursday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. All young adult women
ages 21-39 are invited to a!end. For more informa"on
or to be added to the email list, please contact Mary
Markert.
Our other summer"me dates are:
June 28, July 12 and 26, August 9 and 23.
