Ed-Vance – CALCSecondary (18-20year-old program)Ed-Vance is anaccelerated creditprogram for studentsage 18-20 who arereturning to completetheir Ontario SchoolSecondary Diplomas.Students take threetwo-hour classes perday over a nine weekquadmester and canearn up to twelve creditsin an academic year.Many students continuetheir studies at collegeor university.

The City Adult Learning Centre (CALC) offers a variety of creditcourses for adult students wishing to complete their OntarioSecondary School Diploma, prepare for college or university, orgain job related training. We provide quality education -- tuitionfree! Through assessment of prior education and current skills, anddiscussion of career goals, an educational plan is prepared whichmeets the individual student's needs.  Our school is conveniently located at 1 Danforth Avenue,Toronto, on the southwest corner of Broadview and Danforth(Broadview subway station).

CanEx Co-opCanEx Co-op is a program designedto assist foreign trained professionalsgain valuable experience in theCanadian workplace, assist them indeveloping language proficiency andhelp them master the job huntingskills so necessary in the currenteconomic environment, all while gaining secondary school credits.In CanEx, students spend a minimum of three weeks in aclassroom setting fine tuning their resumes and interview skills,learning about the Canadian workplace and searching forplacements relevant to their field.

Personal Support Worker ProgramThis program enables students to earn a Personal Support WorkerCertificate, acquire the skills and knowledge to work as a personalsupport worker, gain practical experience in a health careenvironment, and earn nine credits towards Ontario SecondarySchool Diploma. It is a full-time, eight hundred and ten hours,twenty-seven week program.

Practical Nursing ProgramThis program was developed with the School of Nursing at GeorgeBrown College. Students spend one semester at CALC andqualifying students are granted direct entry to the Practical Nursingprogram with 3 advanced standing credits.  Students in this programqualify for admission to Semester 2 at George Brown College andearn secondary school credits. 

Police Foundations ProgramCALC Secondary students have the opportunity to earn collegecredits towards a Police Foundations diploma while completing theirOSSD.

Ed-Vance Online Co-opEd-Vance Co-op is also part of the Ed-Vance program. Studentscan earn up to six credits in one semester while working full-time.Course work is done online, allowing for minimal disruptions to workschedules.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Guidance and Student Services provides advice and assistance with registration and course selection,to help students choose the appropriate pathway to reach their academic and career goals, includingproviding information on applying to college and university. Help is also given to deal with a variety ofpersonal issues that may be affecting a student’s performance at school. Experienced and committedcounsellors are available throughout the school year on either a drop-in or appointment basis.

What Sets Us Apart

There are four registration periods a year and each term lasts nine weeks.  You must be free to attendschool every day, Monday to Friday, two hours for each class you choose.  The first class of the daybegins at 8: 15 a.m.and the last one at 1:00 p.m. Check our website to learn the date of the nextregistration session An Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)is earned after thirty credits aresuccessfully completed.  If you have been to school elsewhere, held a job, raised children, immigrated toCanada or had other learning experiences, you may apply for Prior Learning Assessment Review(PLAR) and be awarded up to 26 credits towards your diploma. This process allows many adult studentsto earn a diploma in less than one year.

The School's Library has books, journals and computers for student use.  Our cafeteria serves delicious,nutritious food at reasonable prices.  CALC is conveniently located at 1 Danforth Avenue, Toronto on thesouthwest corner of Broadview and Danforth (Broadview subway station).
