Student SurveyIn February, we will be giving students a survey about their experience as a student at Clackamas High School. We believe hearing from students is important and we know that they have a valuable role in helping shape school culture. The electronic survey will be given in class and will be confi-dential. Students will identify their grade, gender, and race/ethnicity, but not their name. Responses are not linked to individual students. The survey will ask students about their school experience from feeling included and being accepted, to bullying and academic rigor. Our staff will use the data from the survey to help guide our school plan for the coming year. It is our goal for students to be heard and valued. This survey will help us hear directly from our students about things that matter most to them. Families are encouraged to have conversations about identity and the school experience with their student.

COUNSELING OFFICE INFORMATION

FORECASTING FOR NEXT YEAR

The annual CHS showcase will be Thursday, February 27, 6:00-7:30 PM and visits to 8th grade classes to present forecasting information will take place February 25 & 28. Counselors will return to the middle schools March 7-8 to assist students in entering forecasting on-line. Counselors visited English classes at CHS to distribute forecasting materials to 9th graders January 13-14, and 10th graders February 13-14. They will return February 11-12 to help freshmen, and Feb. 24 & 27 to help sophomores with finishing the online forecasting process in their study hall classes. Juniors will receive forecasting information in US History classes February 20 & 21. Each junior will be given an appointment to meet individually with his/her counselor prior to selecting classes for the senior year. At this meeting, students can discuss post high school plans as well as senior curriculum choices. Junior appointments will take place March 2-20. All students will be entering forecasting data online.

CREDIT RECOVERY OPPORTUNITIES

We have limited space available in our on-campus credit recovery classes to juniors and seniors who failed core classes first semester. Students who need to recover credit for graduation need to see their counselors. Students planning to attend 4 year colleges or who are wanting to meet NCAA standards are advised that credit recovery opportunities are not acceptable for those purposes.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month!

Did you know that North Clackamas School District provides a number of opportunities to help students prevent tooth decay and maintain good oral health?

Our district’s oral health program (also known as Smile Squad) has received a multi-year Oregon Community Foundation Children’s Dental Health Initiative grant to develop a district-wide school-based dental program that will eventually provide dental services for Kindergarten through Grade 12. Our district has been partnering with Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) to develop this oral health program.

Our NCSD Smile Squad is dedicated to cultivating a culture of good oral health and ensuring all students have access to oral health care.

Our oral health coordinator and NHC’s Community Dental Program staff help families to access dental care for their children. Having these services at our schools means students spend less time out of class and parents miss less work. Several opportunities for all students are listed below.

● Dental insurance navigation and application assistance.

● MODA’s The Children’s Program can provide up to $800 of free dental services for children from ages 5 to 18 who are not covered under any dental plan.

Please contact the NCSD Oral Health Program at 503-353-6096 or [email protected] for information about these and other services. You can also view their website from the North Clackamas School District homepage (www.nclack.k12.or.us). Under Community, choose Wichita Center for Family and Community, and select NCSD Oral Health Program.
