We took the design scheme from HLF application through to final build, which included four audio tours covering the cottage, Clare’s birthplace, and the local village of Helpston. Interpretation also included a bronze sculpture of Clare, which features on the audio tour, room reconstructions, Clare’s manuscripts, special effects, audio visual displays, graphics and low tech interaction. We utilised the niches in the Dovecote to become a three dimensional visitor book, allowing people to contribute their own experience, which extends beyond the work of the poet and includes observations of how the countryside today, is changing.
