On Tuesday Dec. 8, I was privi-leged to attend a tremendous con-cert at Anne Portnuff Theatre. What extraordinary talent we have in our community and surrounding area!! At the end of the concert the directors acknowledged & thanked all the performers. After all was said and done, who was left to thank the directors, Larry Pearen, Laurene Jemieff, Johnna McBride, Mark Zawerukha and the pianist, Shani Apland, for the enormous amount of work and commitment they demonstrated with the pro-duction. There is no doubt that the level of talent in Yorkton & District is second to none. To you, the di-rectors, comes my heartfelt appre-ciation & gratitude.

The family of the late Doreen Allen would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for the love and support shown to our family during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone that phoned, stopped in with gifts of food, condolences, sent flowers, cards and donations. Thank you to The Bentley for their care and friendship during the 19 months Doreen lived there. Also thank you to the Gladstone Senior Residence for their care during the 5 weeks Doreen lived there. Thank you to the Yorkton Ambulance, all doctors and nursing staff who cared for Mom these last few months. Thank you to Christie’s Funeral Home for their support and guidance. Thank you Greg Schick and Kathy Novak for help-ing us with Mom’s service prepara-tion. Also a huge thank you to Rev. Jen Dresser for the lovely service and support. Thank you to Carla Laycock for playing the or-gan and playing Mom’s favourite hymns. Also thank you to Mano’s for the great service and lovely meals prepared for the family after the funeral.

Some foods, like chocolate, can be deadly poisonous to dogs, while rich foods and ingredients like onions or raisins can be dan-gerous for cats and dogs. -- Jessica L. in Camden, New Jersey
DEAR JESSICA: You told them, and thank you! The holiday season, with plenty of parties, family and food, can be hectic for everyone, but it’s important to moni-tor pets and make sure they’re kept away from potentially harmful items.
Many foods, not just chocolate but onions, grapes and raisins, nuts, avocados and other com-mon holiday foods can cause house pets great harm. Store them well out of reach and keep pets out of the kitchen when cooking, and away from serving tables. A more extensive list is available from the Humane Society of the United States.
Christmas tree orna-ments can potentially be harmful. Cats love knocking down glass ornaments and also may accidentally ingest tinsel or other shiny strands. Dogs may gnaw on inter-esting packages or break into gift boxes of candy or fruit.
Even plants need to be kept out of reach: poin-settias, for example, are toxic to cats.
To minimize risk, place breakable orna-ments higher in the tree and put plants well out of reach. During parties or dinners, place your pets in a separate area of the house with bedding, food and water, and check on them occasionally. (This also is helpful in keeping pets’ stress levels down.)
