B9 Yorkton This Week | www.YorktonThisWeek.com | Wednesday, December 2, 2015 KOZEY - It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our beloved Mom, Grandma/Ba- ba Olga Kozey on November 12, 2015 at the Pasqua Hospital in Re- gina at the age of 87. Olga arrived on this Earth August 2, 1928 in Goodeve, SK. A beautiful daughter to Wasyl and Kateryna (Bekesh) Pankiw. Olga grew up in the Goo- deve area on the farm. She attend- ed Halech School for approximate- ly 8 years when a decision came about to quit school to help her family out on the farm as 2 of her brothers set out to join the military. Here now, Olga helped without complaint on the farm, in the fields, with livestock, in the home cook- ing, cleaning and keeping (at her best) all her siblings in order. Olga perfected the art of cooking and baking. Her passion was making dozens upon dozens of perogies and cabbage rolls. Upon her per- fecting the skills of homemaking, Olga was ready for marriage. Meeting the love of her life Peter Kozey, they married in Goodeve in 1950. They settled on the Kozey fami- ly homestead just North of highway 15 between Goodeve and Hubbard, with Hubbard being home. Farm life and working hard was what Olga knew. Never complaining and always working tending to the cattle, feed- ing and milking, cleaning stalls, raising chickens, pigs. All the while raising 4 children, helping out with her live-in in-laws, keeping everyone fed, keeping the house clean, cutting grass, looking after her enormous gar- den, tending to the fields upon harvest. It was a tireless non ending cycle for Olga, with sleep being a foreign word for her. Olga was used to getting up on Mondays at 3 am to do laundry. This was the norm for her. Olga and Peter regularly attended Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Ghost in Goodeve. Olga enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She enjoyed dancing, visiting, playing 3 spot, cribbage, picking mushrooms and choke- cherries and always being the one to have enough food made for every- one - always! This all the while keeping up with her daily duties of being a wife, mom, grandma and homemaker. Olga always had that one stick of Juicy Fruit gum in her purse and always was willing to let another have it. She never complained and always provided for others first. After almost 50 years on the family farm, retirement was in hand and they sold the family farm and retired to the city of Yorkton. Keeping with her faith, she attended the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Yorkton. Upon Peter’s pass- ing in September of 2002, Olga lived in their ‘dream home’ until July of 2006. Here is where she decided to move to her own condo in Regina where she lived out her final years close to her family and friends. Always having thoughts of visiting and having visitors, she became extremely close to Jake Dorish, son of Robert Dorish. It was as she described ‘her boy’ and never a day went by that she didn’t find time to see Jake or at least talk to him. Olga was predeceased by her father Wasyl (1974), mother Kateryna (1978), husband, Peter, brother Nicholas (1984) and sis- ter Mary (2014). Olga is survived by 2 daughters, Elaine (George) Dorish, Karen (Nick) Oltean; sons, Richard (Mabel) Kozey, Donald (Linda) Kozey; sisters, Linda (Brent) Simmons, Darlene (Mike) Baran and brothers John (Catherine) Pankiw, Mike (Helen) Pankiw and Russel (Rosalie) Pankiw. Grandsons Rob Dorish (Rhonda), Rylan Kozey, Corey Kozey (Lynelle), Evan Kozey, Michael Kozey, Tyler Oltean, Brent Oltean and granddaugh- ters Kimberly Dorish, Tiffany Kozey and Nichole Oltean and great-grand- children Mathew, Samantha, Breanne and Jake Dorish, Hunter, Reid and Hudson Kozey. A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 and the Funeral Service on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Fa- ther Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Yvonne Pan- chuk & parish choir members. The cross bearer was Ron Pankiw. The In- terment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Rob Dorish, Jake Dorish, Andrew Kozey, Russel Pankiw, Mike Pankiw and Brandon Krushelnicki serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Olga’s life may be made to the Alzheimer’s Associa- tion. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com. Vichnaya Pamyat! Memory Eternal! HAAG - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dearly loved Paula. Born in Yorkton, April 27, 1964, Paula passed away at her home in Summerland on November 15, 2015. Paula will forever be missed by her daughters: Alexandra and Rianne and their father Ivan Haag (Debbie O’Bree), mother Judy Jo- sephson, brother Michael (Kristy), niece Kennedy, also her many friends and her co-workers at the Pacific Agri-Food Research Cen- tre. Predeceased by her father, Paul Josephson. Paula will forever be remembered for her good na- ture and strong will, her endless compassion and her constant sup- ply of humour. Paula was kind and thoughtful and had the ability to make everyone around her laugh, whether it be along with her or at her expense. Paula dearly loved her friends and family near and far and did her best to remain in con- tact with them over the years. Above all else Paula loved her two

daughters, whom she did an incredible job of raising for the past twenty- two years. Paula was an exceptional mother, mentor and friend and will be dearly missed by all of those who were lucky enough to have known her. A Celebration of Life was held for Paula on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Providence Penticton Chapel, 1258 Main Street, Penticton, British Columbia.

I would like to announce the passing of my wife, Mary Ozirney, on No- vember 22, 2015 at the Yorkton Hospital. There will be no funeral service, but donations to the Yorkton Regional Health Centre would be much ap- preciated. At the same time I would like to thank Dr. I. Vorster and staff and all of the other doctors and staff on floors 2nd South and 3rd South for the generous care they provided for Mary. Also, thanks to my neigh- bours and friends for the food and cards, I appreciate your consideration very much.

-Thanks,Mike Ozirney

MADARASH - Mrs. Sophie Mada- rash (Hadubiak), beloved wife of the late Mike Madarash, entered eternal life at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Sunday, Novem- ber 22 at the age of 83 years. So- phie was born on February 6, 1932 to Peter and Kathrine Hadubiak (Malowany). She grew up on the farm and attended Monastyr School. Sophie grew up in a family with four other siblings and being the oldest she took on many re- sponsibilities of looking after the younger brothers, working on the farm and helping her parents. On July 17, 1950, Sophie married Mike Madarash of Buchanan, a marriage which lasted 55 years until Mike’s passing in May of 2005. Sophie and Mike farmed northwest of Buchanan in the Ole- sha district, raising grain, livestock, chickens, having a huge garden and in the meantime, raising seven children and looking after Mike’s elderly parents. Sophie, along with husband Mike, made the big move

to the big City of Yorkton in December 1974. Sophie worked at various jobs, but the one she cherished the most was working for the Sister Ser- vants of Mary Immaculate until her retirement. Sophie was an avid gar- dener and took pride in her garden and especially her beautiful flowers. She loved family gatherings and preparing meals, especially at Christmas and Easter. The grandchildren loved eating her cinnamon buns. Mom took every opportunity to travel. She and dad travelled to Toronto and St. Paul, MN to attend their granddaughter’s graduation from law school. Af- ter Mike passed, she continued traveling with her children to Vermillion Bay, Banff and a few more trips to Toronto. Sophie was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. She volunteered her time at funerals and must have pinched a million perogies. She washed and ironed the purificators for the fathers at St. Mary’s. She was a true people person who loved to socialize and play her Troika games with family and friends and most recently all her new friends at Queen Elizabeth Court. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Mike, her parents Peter and Kathrine Hadubiak, her 2 brothers Terry and Lawrence Hadubiak, 1 infant son Danny, grandson Ryan Korchynski, as well as her in-laws John and Annie Madarash. Sophie will lovingly be remembered by her daughters: Darlene of Winnipeg and her children Matthew and Alicia (Emad); daugh- ter Lucille (Gilles) of Winnipeg and their children Evan (Carleigh) and Co- rey; daughter Linda (Carl) of Regina and their son Curtis (fiancé Sarah); daughter Julie (Tom) of Yorkton and their sons Stephen and Julian; daughter Connie of Yorkton and her daughter Stephanie. Sophie has two sons, Richard of Yorkton and Russell (Carol) of Regina and their chil- dren Amy (Brandon), Tara (Mike) and Travis. She is also survived by four great-grandsons and by sister-in-law Lynda Hadubiak of Burlington, brothers Eddie (Barbara) of Wasaga Beach and Orest (Eleanor) of Regi- na. Sophie is also survived by numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, special neighbours and friends. A Prayer Service was held on Wednesday, November 25 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Fathers Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R., Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. and Michael Krochak officiating. The Holy Rosary led by mem- bers of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League preceded the prayers. The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Bohdan Lu- kie, C.Ss.R. and Rev. Father Michael Krochak as Concelebrants. The re- sponses were led by Laurie Fedorowich & English Choir members. Serv- ing as cross bearer was Julian Abrametz and as epistle readers were Amy Legard & Tara Hazen. Members of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada participated in an Honour Guard. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Matthew Dodd, Travis Madarash, Curtis Korchynski, Evan Lavallee, Corey Lavallee and Stephen Abrametz serving as casket bearers. Following the memorial reception Alicia Zaba- neh & Stephanie Sturtz shared words of remembrance. Memorials hon- ouring Sophie’s life may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Yorkton or the Heart & Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.
