One of the main take aways that I had from my practicum and from class was that one of

the best ways to maintain a productie and positie atmosphere is building strong relationships

with students! "aing a strong presence# or assertie behaior# in the classroom# like I saw first

hand# was instrumental in the maintenances of a harmonious classroom! $his assertie

behaior is described as %the ability to stand up for one&s legitimate rights in ways that make it

less likely that others will ignore or circument them' ()mmer# )erston * +orsham# ,--./! Inclass we had discussed the statistic# % 0 out of 1- say they could be more effectie teachers if

they did not hae to spend so much time on disruptie students!'

+hen I took the assessment to find my classroom management style I had some

interesting results! Of each four types 2uthoritarian# 2uthoritatie# 3emocratic# and 4aisse56

faire there could be a possible 17 points! $he category I got the highest score in is 2uthoritatie

with a score of 17! $he ne8t was democratic with 9! I scored : out of 17 points in both

    2uthoritarian and 4aisse56;aire

One of the first actiities I would do with students is to create rules and policies for the

classroom! $heir input would be aluable for both the rules themseles as well as for the

repercussions! $he subjects we would come up with rules and repercussions for would beF

    1! $ardiness,! Profanity.! Outbursts:! "all Passes7! 4atework

    ! ;ood and 3rinks! )8pectations for independent work0! )8pectations for when there is a substitute9! )8tra $ime

$he students would be able to set reasonable e8pectations for their class! In the future the

rules from other classes could be read to gie them an idea of what direction to take! ;or the

class I would offer a late assignment pass that would get them 9-Q of the full credit! $he pass

would need to hae a parent signature so that there is communication with the parents!

Students would also need to set the e8pectation for discipline as well! +hen detentions are

brought in# when parents are contacted# etc! $o help aoid there being down time# I would like

to hae a full semester project that the students are building towards so that they can work on

parts of it during down time! $his semester project would help substitutes guide the class duringdown time as well! $he worked would also be more productie than just normal busy work!

$here are some rules that would be gien to students due to being tied to school

policies! Others would be dependent on if the class is blended! If the class is blended some of

the rules I would hae would beF

1! 2ll actiities and comments need to be respectful!,! Gou must report any actiity you find disrespectful!.! 2ll information used needs to be cited appropriately!

:! 2ll assignments are due by 11F79pm on the date listed in the syllabus or gien in

class!7! Lnless you are told otherwise# all coursework done online can be reiewed by

peers!! If you hae difficulty with any technology it is your responsibility to report the

problem before the due date!Other disciplinary infractions that are much more seere like weapons# drugs# or

bullying>harassment would be handled in conjunction with administration! 4esser disciplinary

issues would be handled at the classroom leel!

$he use of technology in class would also hae guided lines! $here would be a definite

BGO3 (bring your own deice/ mindset in the class# but some days it simply would not be

needed! $he use of a shoe organi5er would proide a safe place for students to keep their

deices! $he traffic light would also gie students non6erbal cues as to when their deice

should be used or not used! If there is a clothes pin ne8t to the color in the traffic light the use of

    technology would be dictated!

In the classroom I went with tables that allow for moement around the students from a

ariety of angles! $he small central table is meant to proide a place demonstrations of lab

safety or to facilitate fish bowl e8ercises! $he other rectangular tables could also be rotated to

form an oerall he8agon that would be used for %round table' discussions! 2lso in the ideali5ed

room is a nook that could accommodated one6on6ones where the student is shielded from the

rest of the class# but the teacher can still hae line of sight! $he nook would also allow an areafor small group work or a place where students could hae less inputs to distract them! In one

corner is the teachers desk that allows for separation of lab materials! $his total classroom

layout is meant to be collaboratie while proiding space for indiiduali5ed attention! $here are

also two presentation points so that differing iews can be presented in the case of classroom

    discussions!

7! Monitoring the Classroom and esponding to Student Misbehaior

Monitoring what can cause a problem# "elping students feel secure so they

not just the aailable %what is isible!' don&t feel like they hae to behae poorly

$o help preent poor behaior it is important to set students up for success! On the first

day of class it is important to help students understand e8pectations of rules and policies!

Creating a seating chart that discourages poor behaior is another way to help preent students

    from making a bad choice!

In all practical sense there are going to be times in which students misbehae# it is

ineitable! If preention has failed# which it will# one of the first steps I would take is to react

immediately! $his is possible by haing withitness about what is going on in the class! $o react

Parent inolement is going to be one the cornerstones to my oerall classroommanagement plan! Most parents want the best for their child and feel amiss if they dont do

well! If those parents are inoled in their child&s education they can help to ensure better
