We had great conductors...

NY POPS SALUTE TO MUSIC
AND RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
STANLEY KAY BIG BAND DRUMMER SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
NYSMF continued its long-time collaboration with the New York Pops Orchestra and its Salute to Music
Program, in which five lucky musicians get the chance to compete both musically and academically for
full two-week scholarships to attend NYSMF. NYSMF also has the privilege to work with the Ronald
McDonald House and provide additional scholarships to children in that organization. Dr Sherrie Maricle
and Kathryn Rudolph of the NY Pops are to thank for all of their generosity in making all of this possible!
Thanks to the efforts of Dr Sherrie Maricle (NYSMF Jazz Conductor,
NYSMF Director of Education, NY Pops Orchestra member and Education
Director, DIVA Jazz Orchestra, FivePlay), NYSMF students had the
opportunity to win the Stanley Kay Big Band Drummer Scholarship. This
year’s recipient, Merlin Joseph attended sessions two and three.
