Close the Loop is a pioneer in offering creative and unique products made from recycled plastics, tires, and glass bottles. Waste materials are turned into functional and durable products, bringing new uses for materials to the marketplace. For example, recycled plastic fencing is made in Saylorsburg from recycling of milk jugs for plastic lumber, with material sourced from local townships in the Poconos. Waste tires are used to make rubber pavers and landscaping materials, and glass bottles are tumbled for use as decorative and vibrant glass mulch. Rita Lacey of Close the Loop served six years on the county’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee. The company is considered a "Benefit Corporation,” which requires the business to have a positive effect on people and the planet as a top priority. For the past seven years, Close the Loop has organized free community events like their "Give & Take Days" and "Website Building Workshops.” Sign up is required at the circulation desk. Brown Bag Book Club Seeks New Members!

Library Offers Quiet Valley Folk Art Program

Page 2 Clymer Library

Date to Remember:

Monday, May 25

Memorial Day Parade,

Tobyhanna Township

The library’s Brown Bag Book Club will meet Wednesday April 22, at 12:30 p.m. The group will

discuss Beach Music by Pat Conroy. The Book Club meets the

fourth Wednesday of every month at the library. Current members

say the club is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, discuss

an author's style, review history, and give opinions. Members of the

club choose the books to read, and therefore the group experiences a

wide variety of literature. Members say they laugh a lot, and the

meetings are held in a private room as not to disturb other patrons.

Music, art books, trips, and personal experiences add to each

discussion. So far, the group has read Naked Came I (about Rodin),

Me Before You (a current novel), and The Persian Boy by Mary

Renault. The club reads at least one classic novel each year, and this

year, the group selected To Kill A Mockingbird. For more information, contact Melissa Lopez at the

library at 570-646-0826. The club members hope you’ll seriously consider joining them.

On Thursday, May 28, Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will present Just for Nice-Pennsylvania Folk Art, an informative and entertaining program, at the Clymer Library at 6 p.m. According to Quiet Valley, life was hard for the early settlers in Pennsylvania, but despite those hardships they still managed to create many works of art. This program talks about scherenschnitte, fraktur, tinwork, decorative painting on furniture, and decorative fabrics, and is about an hour long with time for questions and answers. For more information or to sign up for the program, call the Clymer Library at (570) 646-0826.

Calling All Teens! The Clymer Library is looking for teens in grades seven through twelve to serve on its Teen Advisory Board. The Teen Advisory Board is a group of young adults who take an active role in their library by helping to plan teen programs and events; selecting books and other materials for teens; discussing books, movies, and music, and having fun! The next meeting will be April 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Library, and new

members are welcome at any time. To join, just show up at the meeting, or contact Mary Ann Lewis, Young Adult Services Librarian, at (570) 421-0800, Ext. 318. Or, email [email protected]. The program is sponsored by the Associated Libraries of Monroe County.

Library Showcases Student Artwork

It’s Time for National Library Week!

Clymer Library Page 3

The Clymer Library continues to showcase works of art by TEC students. The display case at the library showcases “coiled snake” pots made by fourth grade students who molded clay into a coil-like shapes before glazing and placing the pots into the kiln for firing. The display case also features Russian matryoshka nesting dolls made by the first graders in their Library class. The large frames in the reading area showcase textured ice cream cone art created by the kindergarteners. For this project, the students experimented with different textures on each scoop of ice cream and then added them to the cone. Please stop by and see some of these wonderful pieces.

National Library Week is April 12-18, and here’s how we’re celebrating at the Clymer Library:
