DRI seizes cannabis worth Rs 3.1 cr in Chhattisgarh A die-hard fan of United States President Donald Trump, Bussa Krishna, has put forth an appeal to the Central government to fulfill his wish of meeting his idol during his upcoming India visit. "I want India- America relations to remain strong. Every Friday I fast for Trump’s long life. I also carry his picture and pray to him before commencing any work. I wish to meet him, I request the government to make my dream come true," Bussa told here. Bussa, however, is not just any fan but considers himself to be a devotee of the POTUS. He has even installed a 6-feet statue of the US President near his house and offers prayers daily. "I also carry his (Trump’s) picture and before any work, I pray to him. He is like a God to me that is the reason I had his statue built. It took almost a month and 15 labourers to build this statue," he said. His friends told that the villagers have started referring to him affec- tionately as ’Trump’ Krishna, due to his devo- tion to the POTUS. "Although his real name is Bussa Krishna after he started praying to Trump all villagers start- ed calling him Trump Krishna. Krishna’s resi- dence is known as Trump House here. The villagers never objected to it but appreciated his devo- tion," Ramesh Reddy, Bussa’s friend said. The village head of Konnay, in which Bussa lives, Venkat Goud too approved of his beliefs and urged the govern- ment to fulfill his dream of meeting the POTUS. Mr Sohel, a resident of Pandit Nehru Nagar in Boarabanda, runs a hotel along with his father Md. Shafi. On Monday, at around 10.30 pm, Sohel, along with his friends Irfan, Ashfaq, Ghouse and Sohail, all residents Boar- abanda area, and driver Sunil, went to Balanagar in a car (AP11 R9189). At around 2 am, they were driving towards Bor- abanda with Sunil being behind the wheels of the car. As always, develop- ment is the ruse cited by Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa in his letter to Union environ- ment minister Prakash Javadekar asking to reduce the ESZ of the park by no less than 100 sq km. And as ever, the BJP government has proved to be no more environment-friendly than any of its predeces- sors, although the ruling party s MPs, P C Mohan and Tejasvi Surya, had expressed ardent support to saving what is a crucial lung space of Bengaluru. The previous dispensa- tion of the Congress and now the BJP have betrayed the citizens, said Vijay Nishanth, founder of Project Vruksha. Environmentalists have always wanted the original 268 km ESZ of Bannerghatta maintained. However, which govern- ment has ever not given in to development in pref- erence to environmental niceties? The national park s inevitable fate was only stoppered by the Karnataka High Court, which on January 21 restrained commercial and developmental activi- ties within a 10 km radius of the national park. Jagan Mohan Reddy, during his Praja Sankalpa Yatra before the Assembly elections last year, had promised that the number of dis- tricts will be increased from 13 to 25 for decen- tralisation, better admin- istration and taking gov- ernance to doorsteps of the people. In its election manifesto, the YSR Congress promised to turn every Lok Sabha constituency into a dis- trict. Taking forward this promise, Mr Reddy has taken up the exercise for formation of new dis- tricts. However, the Union home ministry has directed all states not to make any jurisdiction- al changes from January 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021. This is in view of house listing operation (HLO) being taken up, along with updating of National Population Register (NPR), as part of Census of India-2021. Consequently, the state government is not in a position to form new dis- tricts till the census is completed. The state administra- tion and the Chief Minister had earlier thought that delimitation of Assembly constituen- cies will be completed in a year. They decided to form new districts after that. But the Centre instead decided to take up delimitation exercise in the two Telugu states along with that of other states after the first Census after 2026. Because of this, the state government decided to take up the exercise of forming new districts. At a recent media conference in Visakhapatnam, a close associate of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr V. Vijayasai Reddy, MP, asserted that the state government will form new districts soon. Incidentally, the Telangana state govern- ment has already formed new districts, increasing the number from 10 to 34. New Andhra Pradesh districts to come up in 2021 A large number of anti- CAA protesters, majority of them Muslims, held a mas- sive protest against the amended Citizenship Act at Chepauk here, even as agita- tions were held across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The protest here was held under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Islamia Iyakkangal Matrum Arasiyal Katchigalin Koottamaippu, a federation of state Muslim outfits and political parties. Representatives from DMK and other political parties also took part in the protest. Meanwhile, as the demonstration was being held at Chepauk, Chief Minister K Palaniswami in the Assembly located inside the Secretariat a few kms away, announced welfare measures for the Muslim community, including pen- sion hike for ’Ulema’ (Islamic scholars). Earlier, in a massive show of strength, agitators came in swathes and con- verged at Chepauk, before taking out a brief march along the Wallajah road as part of their original plan to proceed to the the state Secretariat and lay siege to the Assembly. However, the Madras High Court had on Tuesday restrained the Muslim outfits from going ahead with their seige protest. The outfits have been demanding that the state Assembly, dominated by the AIADMK, adopt a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the ongoing session which concludes tomorrow. Agitators were seen carrying placards against CAA, NRC and NPR, besides the Indian flag and raised slogans against the amended citizen- ship law. Scores of Muslim women, many of them burqa-clad, joined the agita- tion here. The protest resulted in traffic snarls at key points along the arterial Anna Salai, even as police had set up roadblocks and sealed off roads leading to the Secretariat as part of beefed up security measures. The arrests were made based on a complaint from a BJP functionary alleging that Siraj Bisaralli, a poet had recit- ed an anti-CAA poem at ’Anegundi Utsava’ in Gangavathi town of Koppal district in January and Rajabaxi, editor of an online news portal uploaded it on social media. Police had regis- tered a case against them under section 505 of IPC (statements conducing to public mischief). On Tuesday, Bisaralli and Rajabaxi surrendered before a court in that dis- trict, which rejected their bail plea and remanded them to police custody for investigation into the mat- ter. "Siraj had recited the poem and Rajabaxi had shared it on the social media. Based on a com- plaint by a BJP leader the case was registered under section 505 of the IPC. They went absconding after that and surrendered before the court on Tuesday," a police officer told PTI. The duo sought an interim bail, which the public prosecutor object- ed to and sought police custody to conduct inquiry. The court granted sent Bisaralli and Rajabaxi to police custody till Wednesday afternoon. "We may not seek further extension of their custody until some fresh evi- dences surface.
