We’re making fan blocks. Mark’s year as our guild president is coming to an end, and with that in mind let’s show our appreciation for his service to our guild by making a quilt block (with you signature) as our gift at the

end of his year. Mark has requested that we make fan blocks with these specifications: 9-1/2 inch unfinished size

Fan Block (there are many varieties, both traditional and modern) Black background with bright & colorful fan blades One fan blade to be white or very light fabric for your signature and/or message to Mark Please have your block to Rebecca Trevino at either of the August guild meetings.

QUILT SHOW: “A Decade in Stitches” September 7-8, Stafford Centre It’s show time!!! We’re only a few weeks away from our 2018 Quilt Show-

case!

Pre-sale tickets will be available for members at $9 each at both August meetings. Buy now and avoid the ticket lines at the show. Yes, everyone

needs a ticket, even if you’re volunteering.

Quilt turn in day is August 16, during the meeting. Remember that self-addressed envelope you turn in with your entries? You should have received

it in the mail with drop-off/pick-up instructions.

We’re still in need of quilted and craft items to sell at the Artisan Market, gift cards and items for raffle

baskets, single serve, non-perishable snacks for our vendors, and YOU!

Judging, Aug. 28-29. If you’re interested in knowing how judging is done, volunteer as a quilt runner or

holder. Only those who are actually working may be present, during judging.

Hanging & Set Up, Sept. 6, Stafford Centre. Volunteers are needed for quilt hanging teams, as well as

placard and ribbon placers.

Sept. 7-8. All hands on deck! You name it, we need help with it. Please volunteer, even if you can only work for a couple of hours. A lot of members will be there the for the entire show, so any break they

can get would be much appreciated.

Take Down & Clean Up, 4:00 pm, Sept. 8. The more people we have taking down quilts and organizing them, the quicker everyone will get theirs back. Plus, we have a deadline by which we must be out of the

building, Saturday evening, so need lots of help cleaning up.

Although we’ll gladly accept “walk-in” helpers for set up and during the show, it would be very helpful if you would schedule when you can work ahead of time. That way we have an idea of who is coming

and when. Please sign up during the August meetings or contact Sherri Stringfield to volunteer.

The next meeting of the full show committee will be Saturday, August 18, 10:00 am-12 noon at the Uni-

versity Branch Library. PLEASE ATTEND if you are in charge on a show area.

There will not be an evening guild meeting on Sept. 5, due to show set up the next morning.

Our vendors make it possible for us to hold our show at a top notch location like the Stafford Centre. Please support them! Fabrics Etcetera Jo’s Quilting Studio Quilts from Mulberry Lane

Coastal Prairie Quilt Guild Minutes of the June 6, 2018 Board Meeting

(approved July 11th, 2018) The meeting was called to order by Mark Towle, President at 3:00 pm at the Hickory Inn BBQ location on FM1092 in Missouri City.

Board Members in attendance: Mark Towle, Rebecca Trevino, Cathy Price, Diane Hickey, Kay Paul, Darlene Patin, Gwen Goldsberry, Joan Bell, and Sherri Stringfield. A quorum was pre-sent. Committee Members in attendance: Pauline Manes and Peggy Johnson.

2018 Quilt Show: Barb Wall reported that she has been investigating Liability Insurance for the Quilt show. The approximate cost for an umbrella policy that would provide year round liability coverage for all Guild events would be about $500/year. This would cover any Guild member at all Guild events, visitors and presenters at Guild meetings at the church, vendors and the public at the show. Joan Bell made the motion to accept the State Farm liability policy that Barb Wall has researched and to apply for the coverage. Diane Hickey seconded this motion. The Board ap-proved the motion as presented and will make an application for the coverage. Barb Wall also reported that the show committee meeting was held on the 19th. The website needs to be updated to include the vendor list and additional show information. Pauline Manes reported that she now has access to the Facebook site and it is also available for use. The next meeting of the show committee will be July 7th, 10 – noon at the Fort Bend University Branch library. Pauline Manes reported there are now 26 vendors. Vendors are still be accepted until July 15th or all slots are filled. The Minutes of the May 2nd, 2018 Board meeting were approved as presented. The Treasurer’s Report from May 2018 was approved. A question about the April 2018 budget was answered by Diane Hickey. Discussion Points: Anniversary Items Pauline Manes reported that the order for the shirts has arrived and she will have these for the members that purchased them. She will also have the logos for sale since an excess number were purchased to get the minimum number. These are $2.00 each and can be ironed on for usage. Donation Quilt 2019 At this time, a top, batting, and backing are with Lisa Patterson for quilting. There will be a quilting charge, but the amount is not known yet. Library Update Mark Towle reported that several bags of books were donated to the Fort Bend Women’s Shelter Pennywise program for resale. The book purge for 2018 is complete. Approximately $155 was donated by members for the books they took home. This money will remain in the budget as income. If new books are recommended for purchase by the Guild members, the purchase will be considered. It was recommended that information on how to access the library list be published on the web-site if not currently there. Nominating Committee The nominating committee for next year’s Board consists of Joan Bell, Diama Cortez, Gracie Clark, Pauline Manes, and Linda Towle. Joan reported that they have had two resignations since Diama and Gracie will be running for office, but the committee has completed filling the ballot except for a President-elect candidate. There are members being asked about taking the positions.

The Board approved the motion not to meet due to the holiday. There are seven other open meeting dates that could be filled by Guild presenters or charity events. Joan will put the list of events in order and the Board will finalize the presentations next month so the Trifold can be prepared. Workshop Chair: Kay Paul reported that she open slots for the Veronica Cox workshop on July 19th. Since there are no more meetings after tonight and before that date, she will put more info in an email so people can sign up via email or regular mail. A supply list has been sent to member-ship. The cost of the interfacing kit for the workshop is $12 and will make about 60 flying geese, so Kay felt members might want to share a single kit. The August workshop date will be our 2018 quilt show quilt turn-in session. Workshop Chair-elects: Darlene Patin indicated that they are working on the list of workshops in conjunction with Joan. Judy Wolter will be out next month for knee surgery. Darlene reported on the results from the member survey she and Judy passed out previously. Fif-ty-six surveys were returned. The largest type of presentation preferred was Traditional. This was followed by Modern, Paper Piecing, and Applique. A large number of surveys indicated that members would be interested in learning techniques from other members. Darlene noted that some of our Guild members teach classes outside of the Guild.
