NEEDED BY 9/9/13!!

On Sept. 28th and 29th the Glenn House will be having an open house, and they are asking for quilts to be displayed. There is no specific age, style, or theme for this display. Anything goes. The quilts will be insured while displayed at the Glenn House. I need to deliver the quilts to the Glenn House on Sept. 16. I can pick up quilts at the September meeting or you can call me and we’ll make other arrange-ments. Please consider lending a quilt or two for this worthwhile project. Be sure your quilt has a label. Also, if you have a quilt rack that they can use, let me know that, too. Thanks. --Darla Snider

Good Day!! Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of Fall--I am. It seems like when school starts everything starts to slow down. The days are getting shorter and shadows are falling differently in the afternoon. It makes me start thinking about jacket weather. I love jacket weather, warm days and cool evenings--perfect for our picnic. September is our picnic month, and we will be meeting at County Park South Pavilion #20 at 6:00 p.m. The Guild will provide the meat (fried chicken), and everyone is asked to bring a dish to share. We will not be having the door prize, attendance prize, or the fat quarter drawings at the picnic. We will have show and tell, so bring your finished projects to share with everyone. Games will be played and, ac-cording to Chris, very special prizes can be won! See you in September, Sally Miller, President

RHQG 2013 RAFFLE QUILT The opportunity quilt was taken from the book, "On-Point Quilts" by Retta Warehime. The

quilt is called Trellis. The blocks were made 1 1/2 times the size called for in the pattern.—

Jeanette Buchheit, Opportunity Quilt If everyone sells their four packs of tickets ($5.00/each for a total of $20), we would make

more than what we budgeted. This money is used for workshops, programs, and trips. Raffle

drawing will be held at November meeting. I will be at the meetings, or if you contact me, I can

drop them off at the Golden Needle for you to pick them up. The Guild is trying to avoid mailing

them as that takes away from the profit.—Merle Deneke, Opportunity Quilt Raffle

(P.S. Merle has graciously offered that if you send your money along with address labels,

she will make sure they get into the drawing for you!)

MINUTES:

The River Heritage Quilt Guild was called to order at 6:30 p.m. on August 12th,

2013, at the Cape Girardeau Public Library by President Sally Miller. There were 73

members present with 3 new members and 8 guests. The motion to approve the minutes

was made by Linda Gast and Pat Smith.

August birthdays celebrated were: Cheryl, Mary, Linda, Rebecca, Edna, Betty,

Joyce, Cindy, JoAnn, Marie, Carolyn, Brenda, Ravan, Chris, Karen.

Dawn Heese was our guest speaker this month, and if I do say so myself, if you

missed it you missed a great speaker. She had many stories about all of her quilts, and her

favorite way to fix a mess-up is to put an appliqué or a yoyo on it.

Next month we will meet at the Cape County Park South, Pavilion #20 at 6:00 p.m.

Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fun. We will not have a fat quarter for September.

Pattern of the Month winner was Madeline Gieselman. Most patterns can be found

at www.quilterscache.com.

Darla Snider says that the Glenn House is once again needing quilts for display and

also quilt racks. I believe the dates are September 28th and 29th.

Gadget of the Month- Binding Clips-Ravan Simms. Drawings: Attendance/Missy

and Barb; Name tag/Angela; 50-50/Joan Meyer won $36.00; Fat Quarter (32)/Sandra

Cryts.

Show and Tell: Lynnore Meyer showed her daughter’s first quilt. Caroline/2 quilts,

Mary Kay, Mary Tripp/2, Mary Green, Lois, Angie, Paula, Linda, Diane, Harriet/2, Karla,

Christina, Darla, and Linda. Thank you ladies for showing us your beautiful quilts.

Ravan Simms says that we have a Pinterest page and it is under River Heritage Quilt

Guild.

Cindy Spaeth needs all items for the newsletter by the 20th of each month. She also

says we have room for any news.

—Respectfully submitted, Sherry Welker, Secretary
