All schools performances were excellent and it clearly demonstrated the talent that students across our region have. I was extremely proud of the Coffs Harbour P.S. students and also to be part of our wonderful Public Education system. Creative and Performing Arts is an important and well represented area of our curriculum at Coffs Harbour Public School. However, the performances I saw from many schools on Wednesday evening go way beyond a normal curriculum expectation. The teachers, along with the students put in many hours of practise. It is also important to acknowledge the work the teachers do in shopping for materials, making costumes and giving up many hours of their own family time to dedicate themselves to providing additional opportunities for students. A big thank you to Mrs Holden, Mrs Baird and Mrs Hodgson for their work in this area. Winter Sports Day The winter sports day was held last Friday. Except for the weather being a little bit chilly it was an excellent day. All staff and students had a wonderful time. I was able to attend both the netball and the soccer for part of the day. CHPS students were all displaying fabulous sportsmanship and learning many new skills. Stage 3 Excursion Camp was another wonderful experience for our stage 3 students last week. The venue coordinators were extremely impressed with our student’s behaviour throughout the 4 days. Congratulations to you all. The children were able to see and do many interesting things, including an educational lesson and role play at Old Parliament House, an overnight camping experience at the zoo and the opportunity to watch the ‘Socceroos’ qualify for the World Cup. What a great excursion and our sincere thanks to Mrs Firkins, Mr Woodham, Miss Mulrooney and Miss Callinan for giving our stage 3 students such a memorable excursion.

Staff Development Day The Term 3 staff development day will be held on Monday 15th July. School resumes for students on Tuesday 16th July. The teaching staff and school learning support officers will be involved in a number of learning opportunities including; Occupational therapy, utilising multi-modal texts in the classroom and a hearing course. The administration team will be attending a TAFE course on front line management. Staff development day provides wonderful opportunities for all staff to increase their capacity to deliver their work at an optimum level and also to network with staff in similar roles form other schools in the area. Finally, I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. I would like to thank the staff for their continued hard work and dedication to the students of CHPS. Thank you to all of the parents who continue to support the school in many ways and assist in providing opportunities to students. Here are some of the things we did: we went to Centre Point Tower, 3 museums and Sydney Aquarium. We stayed in the bus for the first night then at Aaron’s hotel for two more nights and on the last night we stayed at Taronga zoo.

My favourite thing to do was stay at Taronga Zoo. We saw a turtle shell that was as big as an elephants head and we also saw lots of reptiles.

It was really fun.
