Principal’s Message Dear Parents/Guardians:

Well, Sports Day really was a marathon event this year – taking three separate days to complete!! What an event it was and what a theme!!! WOW. It was fantastic. All our students, from K – 7, really seemed to embrace the theme this year. It was very exciting to see. to attend, on behalf of the school, we want to thank you for everything you do to help provide opportunities for our students – driving, volunteering in the classroom, PAC, etc., we really appreciate it and it allows us to continue to provide an abundance of opportunities for your children. Thank you to the staff for continuing to provide those opportunities and to you for assisting us with them. ‘Together is Better’. Since it is that time of year again, when we are planning for next year, please make sure you are letting us know if you do not plan on having your children return to Seaforth for the 2019 – 2020 school year (you will see a form later in the newsletter). This helps us for planning purposes, and it helps the sooner we are aware. We really appreciate your cooperation in this.

HT Corner: May

One of the very special characteristics of a K-7 school is the opportunity for older students to help younger students. This both builds leadership capacity in our senior students and allows for our primary students to accomplish tasks they might not otherwise be able to do. It also has the added benefit of strengthening our greater school community as it fosters bonds across classes. These dynamics have all been apparent recently at Seaforth as we have been exploring our new ADST (Applied Design, Skills and Technology) kits. The kits explore various forms of design and technology and are accessible from Kindergarten to grade 7. They include wooden Keva blocks, circuit construction, robotics and coding. The kits are designed to be run as different centres or to focus on one specific aspect, but in both cases, what has been invaluable is the older kids helping the younger ones. Lately, with the assistance of our teacher librarian, Sandra Dueck, our library has been transformed into an ADST workshop. Although in the moment it feels like playing (and the grade 7s do enjoy having “centres” again), there is a great deal of learning that goes on too! Whether it is the critical and creative thinking core competencies or the ADST curriculum itself, students are growing and developing their technical skills. I look forward to adding more kits to this experience in the years ahead.

Sports Day Hygiene Drive

Grade 6 Hygiene Drive Helpers and Division 12 coordinated a “magically successful” Sports Day Hygiene Drive. We collected over 3,800 hygiene products and over $300 from all the students, parents, and staff from May 10th to May 17th. All the proceeds will go towards community schools, homeless shelters, and the food bank. Thank you for all your wonderfully wizardly donations!

--------------------------------------------------------- ARE YOU MOVING??? We are well into planning for September 2018. It is very helpful for us to know about families who do not plan to attend Seaforth Elementary in September. If you are definitely moving this summer, please let the office know in writing or complete the form below and return it to the school office as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance.

Leaving Early for Vacation??

If you will be leaving early for vacation at the end of this school year, please inform the office in writing: please include your child(ren)’s name, teacher name and division. Report cards will be mailed out at

the end of June only if you bring in a large envelope (9” x 12”), self-addressed and stamped ($2.50 postage if local address). Otherwise you may pick up report cards in September.

If your vacation will be extended past the first day of school in September we will also need to have a letter on file stating the date of your child(ren)’s return. If we do not have a letter on file for their late return, we cannot hold their space past the first week of September.

The following child(ren) will not be returning to École Seaforth Elementary in September 2019 Child’s Name: ________________________________Grade:______Teacher: __________________ _________________________________Grade: _____Teacher: __________________ Signature Parent/Guardian ___________________________ Date: _______________________
