From the President

Clint Clint Wentworth, CRM President, ARMA San Antonio Chapter

Hello ARMA San Antonio! This month our meeting speaker will be Blake Richardson, author of Records Management for Dummies on the topic of “Digital Dusting.” This will be our last meeting at NuStar Headquarters. If you haven’t been out yet, this will be your last chance to see it! (without scheduling an appointment with yours truly ☺) In January we will start meeting at a more centralized location: the La Quinta Inn & Suites Medical Center. I look forward to seeing you at the meeting and on behalf of ARMA San Antonio, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Thank You for Volunteering!!! The Board of ARMA International San Antonio wants to deeply thank Eric Sedwick for taking on the position of VP for Professional Development. Eric will be working hard the next few months to coordi-nate our chapter’s participation with the Austin chap-ter of ARMA in a joint seminar for members of both chapters. Without members like Eric who are willing to step up and volunteer, our chapter would not have quality programs and opportunities for our members. Thanks, Eric!

Getting to Know……Paulette Price By Anne Comeaux, CRM

One of our newest ARMA International San Antonio Chapter members is Paulette Price, the Records Management Coordinator for Acelity. Acelity is a global wound care and regenera-tive medicine company, created by uniting Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (KCI); LifeCell Corpora-tion (LifeCell); and Systagenix Wound Management, Limited (Systagenix). Acelity develops products and therapies that speed healing and lead the industry in quality, safety and custom-er experience. The company markets its products to more than 75 countries worldwide. Paulette began working for the company in May 2014. As Records Coordinator, she manages the records across locations in 140 countries. Records include patents, trademarks, human resources records and other business documents. Working on merging the records and reten-tion schedules for three companies, enforcing records retention compliance, developing train-ing programs for US and international branches and performing legal research on records issues keep Paulette very busy, but she is also looking forward to traveling to other company sites around the world. When asked what her favorite part of being a records manager is, Paulette said she likes being “an insufferable know-it-all.” As she explained it, to manage records for the company she has to know about all the company’s operations and be an expert in all its records functions. She likes answering questions for other employees. Prior to working at Acelity, Paulette completed online training as a paralegal through American Public University Sys-tems (APUS) then worked as a paralegal for 11 years at Chase Bank in litigation collections. Following that, she worked in temp jobs, where she experienced working for CPS in their records department answering open records re-quests. She liked records management, and when she heard about an opening at KCI for a records manager, she decided to apply. Paulette was born in San Jose, California as part of a family of seven children. (She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters). Her family moved around the country, spending time in Utah and New York before moving to San Antonio. Her family has since moved on, but Paulette met her husband in San Antonio and they have stayed here, along with their four children (aged 12 – 16) and their two dogs. As a child, Paulette learned to play not only piano, where she placed in a national competition, but also cello, flute, pic-colo, and guitar. In high school she joined the choir, orchestra, and concert (not marching) band as well as varsity speech, debate, and drama. When I asked why she did not become a music major, she said she was more scientifically-minded – and she did not like performing! She hopes to go back to school someday to get a degree in biomedical engi-neering. She still has a passion for music, however, and encourages her children in playing piano accordion and tuba. She also has helped found a non-profit organization called “Dreams Fulfilled through Music,” with a goal to provide music education and music therapy services for people of all ages with disabilities. She learned a lot about records in managing the non-profit, creating the organization’s records policy and retention schedule. Paulette is also trying to encourage the establishment of a therapeutic charter school – one where children with disabili-ties of all kinds can receive the therapy and education they need. Public therapeutic schools are very expensive and out of the reach of many children with special needs. So, welcome to one of our very talented and very busy members – Paulette Price! .

CRM Study Group Anne Comeaux, CRM

The San Antonio Chapter of ARMA’s CRM Study Group is currently studying for Part III of the CRM Certification exams. We have several members who live outside of San Antonio in surrounding counties. In lieu of actually meet-ing, members are experimenting with a new format where they cover the material by dividing up the study guide so that certain sections are due by a specified date. Parts of that section are assigned to each member of the group. Members write up a summary covering the information for that part and email it to other group members by the due date. Members then study the sections on their own and submit any questions to the group member responsible for the section. New members are always welcome. For more infor-mation, contact Anne Commeaux at 210-567-2428 or [email protected] .
