Fabula Living is a modern Nordic Design Tale about an old crafts-

manship. The Danish company brings together the Scandinavian

design tradition and sophisticated style with the ancient techniques

of weaving to give handmade rugs a modern touch. Since the start

of the company in 2004, the brand has created a beautiful collec-

tion, which is being sold all over the world and has transformed

contemporary homes from Japan to Germany.

For Jens Landberg Schrøder, founder of the company, it all began

when he was working for a big carpet retailer and was introduced

to the intriguing world of traditional oriental rugs. He developed

a passion for the craft and combined with entrepreneurial ambi-

tions, he and his wife Rikke Landberg Schrøder started their first

company back in the nineties.

After years of trading oriental rugs, they followed the trend and

changing demands and began to design their own contemporary

rugs in 2004. Their knowledge, experience and passion for design

went into their new adventure, a family business. The name

Fabula Living was chosen to reflect their desire to tell stories

through the design.

The couple have developed a brand based on craftsmanship,

modern colours and strong, simple style and a way of living often

associated with Scandinavian design. The rugs are not just for

decoration, they are designed to be used and lived with and to give

a finishing touch in a stylish, modern home.

With Jens Landberg Schrøder as head designer, Fabula Living has

through reinterpreting classic patterns created a collection of rugs

with emphasis on technique and quality. They don’t shout for

attention. The power is in the detail, in a perfectly picked soft

colour, a sublime wool quality, a rustic texture or the pure simplicity.

All rugs are woven by hand, making them slightly irregular in the

weave, colour, design and size. With no rugs exactly the same,

Fabula Living celebrates the charming beauty of imperfection and

authenticity in long lasting design. Many of them are also made in

bespoke sizes for individual customers.

Fabula Living hasn’t swayed from the original concept, but in 2013

the owners decided to expand the collection and brought in renowned

designer Lisbet Friis, who has used her technical expertise and

arty touch and added more colourful rugs with stripes inspired by

antique kilim and Nordic rag rugs.

All the designs are spun from threads of passion; not just when it

comes to the clean styles and high quality of wool, linen, cotton

and other raw materials. The process and passion behind the

lines is what makes the rugs special. Armed with sketches, new

inspiration and ideas the Danish designers work in a very close and

personal collaboration with their experienced suppliers, weavers

and finishers in India.

A soft faded colour might be the result of endless experiments. The

team touch and think a lot in the process, and try out new ideas

over and over again. They never let a good enough pattern, colour

or thread pass, they are always prepared to try that extra time,

weave with another tread, experiment with another material or run

to the nearby market for another shade of red yarn.

This blend of Nordic/Oriental design tradition, passion and

patience, together with the humble and proud celebration of the

craft are woven in as invisible threads in all rugs. This creative

process adds soul and makes design from Fabula Living unique.

The 2015 Fabula Living collection presents handmade modern wool, linen and

cotton rugs. The styles range from timeless rugs in soft shades, which subtly

bring together everything in a room to the vivid blue, yellow and coloured stripes

making a more bold statement in the décor. Every single design is based on the

same philosophy: a strong bond between traditional techniques, craftsmanship,

uncompromising quality and Danish design roots.

How to care for your rugWe always recommend using an underlay to extend the life of the rug.

An underlay ensures that the rug remains in a fixed position and reduces the risk of

any staining. Most of our kilim rugs are reversible. We recommend that you turn

the rug over every six months. Do not place the rug in direct sunlight.

DAILY CLEANING:

Vacuum the rug as needed. Never vacuum the rug with the brushes of the

vacuum cleaner nozzle in the extended position.

You can also give the rug a gentle shake outside. Do not beat the rug.

SPOT CLEANING:

Dab the spot very gently with a damp cloth soaked in carbonated water.

MORE THOROUGH CLEANING:

We recommend professional cleaning.
