Confetti was founded 25 years ago by Craig Chettle, a former musician, producer and sound engineer. Over the years it has developed into a renowned creative industries centre, teaching visual effects, film, TV, games, live & technical events and music.

Confetti courses are vocational – they are connected to the industries you want to work in and they are designed to give you the very best chance of success.

Since August 2015 we’ve been part of Nottingham Trent University, meaning your creative education journey could continue right through to degree and postgraduate level.

Confetti also runs a number of commercial businesses – film and TV post-production company Spool, new national centre Metronome, creative business hub Antenna and furniture design and manufacturing business Constellations. We are also partners in Nottingham’s successful television station Notts TV, which broadcasts 24/7 on Virgin and Freeview to homes across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands.

All of these commercial businesses offer our students unique opportunities to get first-hand industry experience, from performing on our stage, to working behind the scenes on live TV programmes.

Games & Media Hub Confetti is in the heart of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter. Our college-level courses are run from our base on Convent Street, with state-of-the-art facilities, classrooms and social spaces.

MetronomeContemporary Music & Live Events HubConfetti is set to become a leading force in contemporary music education with the creation of our new home for music and live events.Metronome is our new contemporary music and events education hub “of European significance”, and has been designed by world renowned acoustic architects White Mark Ltd who have designed studios for clients including Jay-Z and Damon Albarn. As a Confetti student you could have access to:

Students are already using studio spaces, but the centre is due to open fully in autumn 2018. Metronome’s public-facing venue will be a new, national centre for music, moving image, videogames, live performance and spoken word and will deliver an ambitious, diverse and contemporary cross-media programme.

‘Do It For Real’ industry experience lies at the heart of our courses – offering ambitious students hundreds of opportunities to gain real industry experience. Expect assignments set by the industry, in-house showcase events, internships and a host of freelance opportunities. From working on the full-length feature production Outlawed, to working at Splendour, Nottingham’s biggest outdoor music event, our students have hundreds of opportunities a year to ‘Do It For Real.’

Confetti LiveThroughout the year, we put on a series of gigs to give our students the chance to perform at some of Nottingham’s top venues, including The Bodega, Rough Trade and The Maze. Our Live & Technical Events students run the shows, and we invite the general public along to watch.

SplendourEvery year our students work alongside DHP and professional crews to help put on Nottingham’s biggest outdoor music festival – Splendour. Events students control the behind-the-scenes technology, PA and lighting, music performance students observe and some even get to perform, while the film & TV students work with Notts TV to film and record all the action backstage.

Hockley HustleThe Hockley Hustle music festival fills the streets and venues of Hockley, with some of the best up-and-coming, and established talent in Nottingham. Confetti regularly hosts a stage at the event, featuring our students past and present. There are lots of ways for you to get involved with Hockley Hustle, whether you’re performing, running the show as part of the tech crew, or volunteering to help at the venues.

LockwoodOur games students have gained some valuable ‘Do It For Real’ work experience working alongside employees at the highly successful online publishing studio Lockwood, who specialise in social games and created the popular virtual world app Avakin Life..

Notts TVNottinghamshire’s very own TV channel sees our TV & film students getting hands-on, real industry experience in all aspects of television production – with show, such as Noise Floor, Ey Up Notts, Sports Week and Notts TV Debate all filmed on our campus daily. Our music performance students also have the chance to perform regularly on shows, such as Ey Up Notts and Noise Floor.

NusicCelebrating Nottingham’s vibrant music scene, Nusic is forever looking to promote new talent from around Nottingham. They regularly use our music and TV studios with the help of our talented students. Their popular Future Sessions series is filmed at Space2 and our students have worked in live audio, lighting, mixing and filming.

Choosing Your CourseWe offer college courses at three different levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. You’ll need certain GCSE grades, and Maths and English skills to be accepted onto some of our courses.

All of our college students take part in our Professional and Personal Development (PPD) sessions. They’re built into your course timetable, for an hour per week.

What will I study?As part of your programme of study, you’ll examine a range of development themes, such as self-awareness, health, diversity, employability and goal setting.

You’ll also create a portfolio of work for your vocational sessions, which aims to aid your progression into employment.

Professional & Personal Development

English and Maths

Studying English and Maths at ConfettiIf you haven’t excelled at English or Maths at school before, don’t worry. We have an excellent pass rate in both English and Maths, and surpass the national benchmark. We pride ourselves on our ability to make the subjects interesting, coaching you through the syllabus in a way that works for you. Our aim is to help you to achieve a grade 4 (C) or above in both subject areas, to aid you in your progression to higher education and employment.

What will I study?• If you’ve achieved a grade 3 (D) at GCSE, or passed Level 2 Functional Skills, you’ll

study GCSE English Language and/or GCSE Maths, where you’ll be supported to achieve a grade 4 (C) or above.

• If you've achieved a grade 1 (F) or below at GCSE, or you haven’t yet achieved a Functional Skills pass, you’ll be required to study Functional Skills English and/or Functional Skills Maths at Level 1. Functional Skills will provide a stepping stone towards GCSE; once you’ve achieved a pass at Functional Skills, you’ll progress onto the GCSE course.

Our syllabusWe follow the AQA syllabus for both GCSE and Functional Skills English, and we use Pearson for both GCSE and Functional Skills Maths.

If you haven’t yet achieved a grade 9 – 4 (A* - C), you’ll study Maths and English at Confetti as part of your course. You’ll attend a compulsory GCSE or Functional Skills session over the course of a year, which is a requirement for all of our vocational courses at Confetti.

As part of your programme of study, you’ll have a Personal and Professional Development session. Also, depending on your prior English and Maths attainment, you may need to improve your grade as part of your course.

Additional Learning Support Our ALS team will assess the support requirements of all students who declare a support need. If you feel that you require support you will be guided through our support assessment process. Support is intended to enable access to learning for all students, whilst increasing a student’s ability to work independently. We recognise that students are individuals, so how support is delivered will be different for everyone and can range from simple drop in sessions, through to individualised support packages for those with more complex difficulties. We take a partnership approach to support and encourage input from the student, parents, supporters and other professionals.

The ALS team also work closely with curriculum areas to develop an inclusive curriculum that reduces barriers to learning.

Student ServicesThroughout your time at Confetti you’ll have the one-to-one support of apersonal tutor, as well as your course tutors. In addition, there’s a wholerange of different Student Services available, including:

• Information, advice and guidance on every aspect of your course and being a student at Confetti

• Help with study skills and additional learning support

• Pastoral support such as mentoring and finance advice

• Enrichment activities designed to help you get the most from your time here

Will I have to pay for my college course at Confetti?16 – 18 years oldNo! Your college course is fully funded and you won’t need to pay to study with us.

19 + years oldYes, you may have to pay fees to cover the cost of your course. You’ll be assessed each year, and the amount you’ll pay may change with each assessment.

In 2018-2019, the fees for Level 1 and Level 2 courses were £750 per year of study, and £1,000 per year for Level 3 students. Fees change each year, so these are supplied as a guide only.

Talk to us about your circumstancesIn some circumstances, course fees may be waived in part, or in full, depending on your exact age, employment status or previous qualifications.

How to pay your fees (if applicable)We know that paying everything up front sounds a bit daunting, so we’ve made paying your fees as easy as possible.

Choose to pay:• In full, at enrolment (at the start of

your first term, in the autumn) or, • Sign a direct debit agreement

which allows you to break your fees down into four, more manageable payments. There’s no administration fee for this facility. The first payment must be paid at your enrolment session.

By CarNottingham is in the East Midlands and is easily reached by motorway. If you’re coming from the north, south or west, use the M1 motorway, exiting at Junction 26 to reach the city. From the east, you can take the A52 into the city centre.

There are a limited number of pay-and-display parking spaces on King Edward Street, Brook Street and Bath Street. Car parks are also near our Digital Media Hub, and music and events hub, Metronome on Brook Street, Huntingdon Street and Glasshouse Street (Victoria Centre). Our film and TV hub, Space2, has parking facilities on Handel Street and Garnet Court – just a 3 minute walk away. You can pay for Nottingham on-street parking using cash, debit/credit cards and the Ringo app.

By CoachNational Express coach services operate from Station Street, which is a 15 – 20 minute walk from our campus. If you’re travelling from Derby, the Red Arrow runs every 10 minutes, non-stop down the A52. For route and ticket information go to nationalexpress.com or trentbarton.co.uk.

By RailNottingham Rail Station is a 15 – 20 minute walk from our campus. You can take the East Midlands Train service if you’re travelling from Beeston, Alfreton or Derby. Go to nationalrail.co.uk for details.

By TramThe NET tram runs between the rail station and many local areas, including Bulwell, Hucknall, Clifton and Radford. For route and ticket information, go to thetram.net. Our closest stop is a five minute walk away, in the Lace Market.
