The East Carolina University College of Engineering and Technology is one of the fastest growing units on campus, with over 3,000 students enrolled in four departments: engineering, computer science, technology systems and construction management. Ever since its founding in 1935, the College has been a driving force for technology in eastern North Carolina and is positioned to produce many of the top graduates in the state of North Carolina. The College has nine undergraduate degrees, seven graduate degrees and five certificate programs with approximately 2,730 undergraduate students and 350 graduate students (including certificates) in the College. The Department of Engineering was created in 2004 and is closely associated with industries throughout the region. ECU is the only UNC campus with a medical school, dental school and a college of engineering. The programs within this College are accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET, Inc.). A key focus within the College of Engineering and Technology is student success. The College believes that
success is measured not only in the number of students who complete degrees and graduate from their
programs, but even more importantly is measured in the type of jobs and careers their students enter upon
graduation. The College of Engineering and Technology is a key player in providing a skilled and prepared
workforce with graduates who have the ability to be successful at the very beginning of their careers. CET
graduates are poised to compete in a globally competitive market with extensive technology and engineering
skills and expertise.
Service is another commitment of the College. Faculty and students are engaged in serving the local
communities and beyond. Teaching leadership through service is a fundamental component of the
curriculum.
The Mission:
To provide high quality instruction, research, outreach and engagement programs that enable our students
to achieve their career goals and that promote a strong, sustainable future for our region. We provide access
to experiential technology-intensive education that meets the needs of our region, state and nation. Our
programs are enhanced through student, faculty and staff engagement with business, industry and the
community.
The Vision:
To develop leaders whose knowledge, skills, and abilities improve the quality of life and promote economic
development and regional transformation.
