Purpose of the Course

For each internship credit a student sets measurable career performance and learning objectives that go beyond the present scope of his/her job. The student then works to accomplish those objectives during the semester.

Work Hours Requirement

The Formula: For every 75 hours of employment in a semester a student may earn 1 credit hour of co-op/internship.

2 credit (150 hour)/semester minimum

A student who works 10 hours a week for 15 weeks is eligible for 2 credits. Students who work more hours may earn more credit.

Course Requirements

Students may take Internships over more than one semester but may not accrue more than a total of 16 hours over the course of their college career.

Internship credit may not be earned or awarded retroactively.

The student will receive a CR designation on his/her transcript. No letter grades are given.

22 May 2015Work with your work supervisor to develop appropriate objectives for the semester.Coordinate with Internship Manager to ensure Objectives Worksheet meets requirements.Submit typed signed objectives in final form to your Internship Manager. Your supervisor must initial the Objectives Worksheet that he/she has received the form letter.

21 May 2015: Last Date to drop without receiving a W

27 May 2015: Scholarship applications due

19 Jun 2015: Submit completed Mid-term Evaluation Form to your Internship Manager. If requested, assist in coordinating a job site visit between your work supervisor and your Internship Manager.

31 Jul 2015 : Complete your term paper and the Final Evaluation Form. Submit to your work supervisor for approval.

07 Aug 2015: Submit term paper, Final Evaluation Form, and End of Course Survey to Internship Manager.

14 Aug 2015: All required documents must be submitted to receive final grade.

How to Write Objectives

What are objectives? Objectives are goals. They are

targets to be reached. Successful professionals constantly create goals and work toward them. Internship students are required to set their own targets; what they want to achieve.

Objectives must:

Be an expansion of your Project Proposal.

Combine academic knowledge with workplace environment.

Be achievable by Monday of the week before finals.

Be reasonable within your work place and have your employer’s approval.

Objectives must:

Be measurable. Be verifiable by a rational,

performance, or data-based method, such as: increasing sales by 20 percent, having a 100 percent safety record for 3 months, or completing the 30 hour management training program.

Minimum of 2 pages OR 1page per credit, whichever is GREATER, 12 font size, APA format (double-spaced, cover page, grammatically correct), professional report which includes the following: Additional duties and responsibilities if

added during the internship The objectives and expectations of the

organization with regard to the internship.

The competencies completed during the internship and the extent to which they were achieved.

Credit is based on whether you complete all of the requirements.

Failure to submit required information on time may be cause for failure of the course

All deliverables must be typed. Those requiring signatures, must have them.
