Along time ago in the year 1763, there was a place called the 13 colonies. The colonist were happy people that lived in the colonies. Colonists are the people that lived in the colonies after the French and Indian war King George III was in debt. Debt means money that is owed. After the war King George III put a stamp act on the colonist. The stamp was a law that made the colonists pay taxes on stamps. So they’re deciding four men's orders to take down the evil king to make the 13 colonies one of their own.

The very next day King George III created a new law. The new law was called the Quarter act. The quarter act is something that ordered the British soldiers to stay at the colonist house. The colonist were very , very angry. After that King George III made a new law called Townshend act. That law is what made colonist pay taxes for paper, glass, lead, paint, and tea. The colonist grew even angrier. They felt like they had no liberty. Liberty means freedom. The colonist were wondering what King George III was going to do next.

In 1770 a fight broke out in the colonies. The British troops were blamed for killing some of the colonist. Captain Preston was put on trial for the murder. He denies he order his men to kill the people. Redcoats say that the people during the fight were throwing rocks and snow balls. There was much confusion at the time on who started the fight. Later that year the fight was called ‘The Boston Massacre’.

Later that year Ben Franklin wrote a letter to King George III called a petition. A petition is a paper that asks someone in authority to do or change something. The petition wanted King George III to open up Boston Harbor in 1774. it was closed because the colonist were being bad defiant. That’s when the Boston Tea Party came along. The Boston Tea Party is an event that happened in the Boston Harbor when people dressed as Indians dumped tea into the water. Then …

In April 1775 the colonist got into a big fight with the redcoats. It was called the Battle of Lexington. A battle is a fight. The militia were ready to get down and dirty. And win the battle at Lexington. A militia is an army that is unorganized. There is also a mystery on who fired first.

In 1776 the colonist ended the war for independence. Independence is freedom. After all Britain were good guys on some behalf. There's a good guy named Thomas Paine. He made a book called ‘common sense’. The book is about Great Britain.

Declaration of Independence was created. Most of the wealthy were there in 1776when it was signed. Declaration of Independence is a paper that was signed by Thomas Jefferson, it also stated reasons for their freedom. Wealthy people mostly talked about themselves. They wanted more freedom for themselves.

George Washington a war leader of the United States. He helped lead the colonist to victory against Great Britain in 1783. They had an alliance to stop the British. Alliance is help from others. And the colonist had help from France. George Washington also helped the redcoats surrender at Yorktown. After everything and the ruckus they made a treaty with Paris became good friends.
