IntroductionMost control panel messages are status messages that display information about the printer'scurrent operation. In addition, the printer displays warning messages, error messages, andcritical error messages. This document contains a brief description of each message categoryand sections that explain each numerical control panel message and recommend what actionneeds to be taken to resolve the error.

Status messagesStatus messages reflect the current state of the printer. They offer information aboutnormal printer operation and no interaction is reuired to clear them. They change asthe state of the printer changes. !henever the printer is ready, not busy, and has nopending warning messages, the status message "#$%& is displayed if the printer isonline.

Warning messages!arning messages display information about data and print errors. These messagestypically alternate with the "#$%& or ST$TS messages and remain displayed until

the (Select) button is pressed. If *+#$"$+# !$"-I- is set to /0 in theprinter's configuration menu, these messages are cleared by the next print 1ob.

Error messages#rror messages communicate that some action must be performed, such as addingpaper or clearing a paper 1am. Some error messages are auto2continuable3 if $T0*0-TI-#40- the printer will continue normal operation after displaying an auto2continuable error message for 56 seconds. NOTE: $ny button pressed during the 562second display of an auto2continuable errormessage will override the auto2continue feature and the function of the buttonpressed will take precedence. 7or example, pressing the *$-*#+ /0 button willcancel the 1ob.

Critical error messages*ritical error messages display warnings about device failures. Turning the printer offand then on can clear some of these messages. These messages are not affected bythe $T0 *0-TI-# setting. If a critical error persists, service is reuired. NOTE: The control panel messages are listed in numerical order.

c. nscrew two blue knobs located on each side above the controlpanel.

d. +ift the fuser by grasping the fuser housing above the green arrow onthe left and right.

$ critical error has occurred. This error could be the result of a hardware failure, orthere could be a problem with communication or corrupt data. #ach of the followingsteps is intended to determine whether the > error displayed on the printer is theresult of a hardware failure. To ensure the tests are valid, turn the printer on betweensteps to determine if the error message has been cleared.

1. Turn off the printer

2. %isconnect the printer from the :* andDor the network.

3. :ower the printer on. If the error message does not reappear afterdisconnecting from the :*Dnetwork, yet reappears once it is re2connected,verify that the print ueue on the :*Dserver has been cleared of all pending 1obs.

4. :ower off the printer and unplug the power cord before proceeding with thefollowing steps. Take the formatter board out of the printer and then reseat

the various %IMMS or #I0 cards. a. "eseat the formatter back into the printer. b. :lug the power cord back in. c. :ower the printer back on.

;. If the error returns, power off the printer."emove all accessories that have been installed on the printer (for example,#I0 *ards, "$MD"0M %IMMS). If the > error disappears after removing allthe accessories, start adding the accessories back one at a time to isolatewhich one is causing the issue.
