COMMITMENT

WHAT IS COMMITMENT?

“A willingness to give your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or firm

decision to do something”

HYERARCHY OF COMMITMENT

WHY IS COMMITMENT SO IMPORTANT?

•  The more committed people there are, the more effective they are in influencing others.

•  People who are committed are the ones who don't take discouragement seriously.

•  People cooperate at a higher level when they share commitment.

•  If people are committed to an effort for a period of time, they will learn what they need to know to be more effective

INDIVIDUAL COMMITMENT

To commit to something means making a promise with oneself to achieve a goal. This goal can be anything, from stopping smoking or

drinking to improve your Communication Skills. Commit

Requires: •  ACTION •  PERSEVERANCE (no matter what)

•  RESULTS (with no excuse)

TEAMWORK COMMITMENT

QUICK METAPHOR

You begin with “who” rather than “what”. If people are on

the plane because of who else is on the plane, then it`s

much easier to change direction.

Having committed people on the plane

makes the motivation issue go away.

If you have the wrong people, it doesn`t matter wether you discover the right path; you still won`t

achieve greatness.

•  Work on an issue that is important to them.

•  Meet and spend time with like-

minded people

•  Expand their skills

•  Be a part of the team

•  Learn how to lead

•  Rise to a challenge

•  Meet high standards

•  Accomplish something significant. WHY DOES THIS WORK?

“Those who build great companies unerstand that the ultimate throttle on growth for any great company is not markets, or technology, or competition, or products. It is

one thing above all others: the ability to get and keep enough committed people.”
