Which courses should I attend?
There is no expectation that CommitteeMembers will attend all the courses in thisprogramme: the support you might need willdepend on what your role is, and your previousexperience. Please contact your BSI CommitteeManager for advice on which course to attendif you’re unsure.
When is the next course taking place?
You can check to see available dates bychecking our website,www.bsigroup.com/cmtraining – you’ll find allthe courses in the programme listed inalphabetical order there. Once all the seats on asession are taken, the date will be marked“Fully subscribed”. New dates are added to thewebsite at intervals.
Where does the training happen?
From April 2020, our training is deliveredonline via virtual classrooms. Similar content tothat featured in those courses marked in thisedition of our brochure as physical classroomsonly (see page 2 for key) might also be availablein another format: please contact us forassistance.
How do I book?

We will send you an application form on receiptof these details, which you will need to completeand send back to us. Your place is only confirmed
when the completed application form is receivedby us. You will receive joining instructions twoweeks prior to the date of the course.
Why aren’t the start and finish times
of the courses stated in the brochure?
Start and finish times vary, so please check the application form for the course you areinterested in for the latest information.
What are the fees to attend the courses?
There is no charge to attend the courses in this programme if you are registered on BSI’s committee management system prior to booking. Please ask us to check if you areunsure if your personal membership of a BSI committee has been accepted. Please note however that there is a cancellation feefor non-attendance once your booking on acourse has been approved: attendancecancelled within 28 days of the course takingplace will incur a charge of £150 + VAT.
Priority is always given to serving BSIcommittee members, but from time to time we might be able to accept others on some of the courses. The fee for external delegates to attend is £375.00 + VAT. Fees, whereapplicable, are charged per person per day.

Technical Committees draw on the skills and experienceof a cross-section of stakeholders from a wide variety ofnominating organizations, so working effectively with adiverse group of participants is an essential skill instandardization. And if you are selected to represent the UK view on a European or international committee, you will be travelling to other countries and meetingrepresentatives from National Standards Bodies fromacross the world so you’ll benefit from having anappreciation of different cultural, national and linguisticbackgrounds. Of course, these skills are useful forbusiness generally, not just for contributing to thedevelopment of standards. The broad aim of thisinteractive, one-day training course is to enhance yourpractical skills for influencing and communicating in aninclusive manner, enabling you to build rapport andconsensus in both national and global contexts.

Donna has worked on five continentsthroughout her long corporate career inthe fields of banking and informationtechnology, with a focus on the Indiansubcontinent and throughout theMiddle East, including Saudi Arabia as a businesswoman in her own right. (She is the author of several businessbooks focusing on the Middle East,including Doing Business in the MiddleEast and Working and Living in SaudiArabia.) Following a move into cross-cultural consultancy, training andcoaching, Donna has worked withscores of senior global executives andmanagers in the finance, insurance,law, technology, manufacturing anddefence sectors, amongst others. Inaddition to her geographical expertise,she works with multinational andmulticultural team challenges, rangingfrom managing remote teams to raisingawareness about unconscious bias,diversity and inclusion.

In this course, we look at the process of drafting astandard. This one-day overview is designed to help those who are responsible for shaping the content ofstandards of national origin and for those taking part in European or international Working Groups. Join us ifyou’re interested in the answers to such questions as:What’s the difference between normative andinformative? Do the clauses in standards always appearin the same order? Since when has the word‘standardization’ been spelled with a ‘z’? Why is adecimal point used in figures for some standardspublished by BSI, but a comma in others? Should you usethe word ‘must’ in a standard, or must you use ‘should’?

Maximizing Your Meeting ParticipationHave you ever attended a meeting where you feel youhaven’t achieved anything? That your voice wasn’t heard?That no progress was made? That it wasn’t clear who wasdoing what? If so, you won’t be alone. The good news is,there are things you can do about all these problems. Whatever the roles are at a meeting, everyone presentneeds to take collective responsibility for the meeting toensure the time is used productively. Getting Results Through RelationshipsSuccess in all aspects of your professional life requires adiverse set of skills, some of which feel more natural andinstinctive than others. Emotional Intelligence – and your Emotional Quotient(EQ) – is now recognized as a key factor influencing oursuccess, both in the workplace and beyond. It’s all aboutpaying attention to the impact we make on those aroundus. When we work in an emotionally intelligent way, weconsider how our emotions and feelings are contributingto our behaviours and try to regulate those that areperceived as disruptive or inhibiting. We also recognizethe need to truly engage with those around us – inspiringothers to be their best selves. This course will explorehow that is done, building your understanding of how tomotivate yourself, manage relationship pressure pointsand inspire others such as your colleagues on yourTechnical Committee.
