Women’s Bible StudyBe Comforted: A Study of the Book of Isaiah Wednesdays, January 9-April 10, 1-2PM in E105. Isaiah issometimes referred to as a miniature Bible with regard toits structure. It has 66 chapters just as the Bible has 66books. There are two divisions within Isaiah—39 chaptersin the first and 27 chapters in the second. It is said thatthe prophet Isaiah is quoted in the New Testament morethan all other prophets combined. Why is this? Could it bebecause Isaiah identifies God as sovereign over creationand history, as holy, as judge and redeemer? Could it bebecause he writes of a servant through whom God’s redemp-tion will come? Could it be because he envisions the hopeof God’s people in a world that needed God’s message—both then and now? Let’s explore and discover what agelesstruths are available for our faithful living today. Led by TerriCoe, St. Luke’s Director of Adult Ministries.

Our lives are like a big Amaz-ing Race, and when we practice determination, we can bethe one who goes the distance and finishes strong. Thismonth’s memory verse is “Let us keep on running the racemarked out for us,” HEBREW 12:1. When God asks us todo something, God is often guiding us step-by-step in acertain direction that we may not even see or realize. Ourdetermination to be the one who follows God leads us closerto the good things God has in store for us!

January at the Mini-TrackThe kids will be learning “I can talk to Jesus.” Their memoryverse is “Continue praying, keeping alert, and always thank-ing God.” COLOSSIANS 4:2

Resound the Glad Tidings: A Resounding SuccessOn November 30 and December 1, the St. Luke’s Music Ministry undertook their annual ChristmasCandlelight Concerts in the Sanctuary, filling the room with beautiful music, and celebrating the trulyglobal message of God’s love through Jesus’ birth. The concert undertaking represents weeks of prepa-ration, hundreds of hours of rehearsal, and high levels of commitment, faith and prayer!

Much to the joy of the performers, the Sanctuary was filled for both performances—over 2500 in attendance—with noticeable growth particularly at the Saturday afternoon concert. At times the audi-ence was surrounded by percussionists, handbell ringers and singers—truly surround-sound!

Ensembles contributing to the concerts were the Chancel Choir, New Song, Children’s Choirs, St. Luke’sOrchestra, Wesleyan Ringers, Joyful Rhythms and musical guests, Circle City Ringers and the newlyformed St. Luke’s Percussion Ensemble. The musicians were supported by the hospitality of an enthu-siastic usher team, and skillful audio visual support from Jason Barnes.

As a part of the performance, a free-will offering was received, with proceeds being directed to the St.Luke’s Angel Tree project, the United Methodist Global HIV/AIDS Fund, and for the development of future concerts. Those attending the concerts were generous in their financial support, setting newrecords in giving of over $11,000. Thank you!

SUNDAY MORNING CLASSES

Conversations Around the ScriptureSundays, 9:30–10:30AM in E105. United Methodist PastorMartin Thielen was asked, “What’s the least I can believeand still be a Christian?” His thoughtful response becamethe basis of a book that helps us consider what matters mostin a life of faith. Thielen begins his book entitled What’s theLeast I Can Believe and Still Be Christian by identifyingthings we need not believe. He concludes the book with tenthings he believes we need to understand about Jesus—hisidentity, priority, work, example, death, resurrection, legacy, and vision for the world. Thielen notes that a great benefit ofthese beliefs about Jesus is that they provide promising answers to some of life’s questions. Join with other St. Luke’smembers and friends as we share our thoughts and dialogueabout the various elements of faith that are important to us.The book may be purchased in the Oasis Bookstore. Led by Gary Chambers, Brian Earnhart, and Craig Overmyer, St. Luke’s Members.

SAWs Wrap UpLate last year, there was news coverage of a pair of disabledbrothers who wanted to leave their home only to find thattheir aluminum wheelchair ramp had been stolen! SAWsworked with three TV stations and Home Depot to put a newramp together for them, doing the design, prefabrication andconstruction in three days! That extra effort gave the broth-ers hope and freedom!

Our usual sequence of ‘referrals-interviews-surveys-designdrawings-prefabrication-construction-finish routing andsanding’ is done over a much longer time. We always say thatwe stop in December and begin again in March, but that isn’tthe way it works. We actually build as long as we can towardsthe end of the year, and start as soon as we possibly can inthe new year! We are blessed with your support, as that ishow we can continue SAWS’ work! Happily, we welcome yourparticipation either via monetary contributions or volunteertime. Here’s to 2013 and many opportunities to provide free-dom. Contact Paul Snyder at 695-0585 to join the fun.
