GOSPEL CONNECTION
PARISH SACRAMENTAL LIFE
Are you ready for a trim? In today's
Gospel, we hear the familiar teaching
of the vine and the branches. Jesus
reminds us that if we remain close to
him-living in humility, following God's
law, loving our neighbor-we will notice
a positive change in our life and the
lives of those around us. "Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear
much fruit." The Holy Spirit is life-giving. He is fruitful. The Spirit of God won't
refuse grace to a heart that is open.
As we progress through life, learning how to live and love, we grow. Our
personalities flower. We discover what it is to be a blessing to others. We
also experience lack, loss, and the results of our failures. We know what it
is like to "wither" at times, particularly the times when we willingly separate
ourselves from Jesus. "Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless
it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me." For
most of us, this experience of being disconnected and off track
generates a desire to return to what is right and good, to return to the
vine.
But this Gospel is more than "Are you in or are you out?" Even when we
remain in God, when we follow Jesus, we are not exempt from the
challenge, the pruning. "Everyone that [bears fruit] he prunes." A prudent
trim is necessary in the natural world of trees and vines. Dead wood,
broken shoots, and diseased branches need to be cut back in order for
the plant to bear fruit. Jesus wants us to be healthy! He says as much
himself: "By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and
become my disciples."
Take a look at your life today. Where are you bearing fruit? Where do you
need to be pruned?

THE PARISHES OF ST. ANN, ST. JOSEPH , AND ALL SAINTS SUPPORT IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY SEMINARY
About IHM Seminary
Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHMS) is a Roman Catholic college seminary located amidst the natural beauty of the
peaceful Mississippi river town of Winona, Minnesota. Building upon the rich two thousand year history of the
Catholic Church and its Program of Priestly Formation, IHMS in conjunction with Saint Mary’s University of
Minnesota, progressively delivers first-class spiritual and academic resources. This program ingrains an outstanding
foundation of prayer, Philosophy and Theology in our men.
For over a half century the programs at IHMS have been forming men of mature human quality and deep spiritu-
ality. IHMS is more than a place. It is an experience…an opportunity for men to follow Christ. As Pope Francis
defines any seminary, IHMS is a place where one develops their vocation, gaining an in depth understanding of
the Gospel, Confession, the Eucharist and prayer. Pope Francis also says, “We respond to this vocation in the
same way as the Virgin Mary does to the angel: ‘How is this possible?’ becoming ‘good shepherds’ in the image
of Jesus is something very great and we are so small. Yes, it is true, it is too great; but it is not our work! It is the work
of the Holy Spirit, with our collaboration.”

ADOPTION - CATHOLIC CHARITIES
Choosing adoption for your unborn child is a very
loving and mature decision. Even when you know
it’s the right choice, support and guidance is helpful.
Catholic Charities provides confidential services at
no cost, and they facilitate open, semi open, or
closed adoptions. You can find a loving home for
your baby. Call Catholic Charities at 1.800.222.5859
or go to www.ccsomn.org for more information.
NOTE OF THANKS
I want to thank all the teachers of the All Saints and
St. Joseph Faith Formation Program who made this
year a very successful one. We are so blessed to have
such an amazing group of people who dedicate so
much of their time and talents to help our young
parishioners to become more knowledgeable in their
faith. Becky Stenzel

PROGRESS REPORT FOR ALL SAINTS PROJECT RESTORE
All Saints Parish in New Richland
has completed its first project as
a result of your generosity to the
Catholic Ministry Appeal: the Bell
Tower! The final invoice will likely
exceed the estimated amount
because the extent of the
deterioration became more
apparent as the work started.
Please continue to give to the
Appeal because all funds are now
remitted back to the parish 100%
and without the 6% assessment.
The time is now to give! Your
sacrifice and good will make the
next project possible—tuck-
pointing the church exterior.
Thank you.
