there’s exciting times ahead for Wauchope and laurieton, with both

towns embarking on makeovers to their cbds.

The facelifts to both towns are a direct result of our Place Making process and the efforts of enthusiastic community champions.

In Wauchope, decorative planter boxes constructed by Wauchope High School students have been installed in High Street, banners will soon be erected at the entrance to the CBD and plans are afoot for a mural and community noticeboard at the IGA Supermarket in Hastings Street.

Council is also developing an Urban Design Concept Plan that will pave the way for beautification and improvements to pedestrian safety, the streetscape and amenities such as footpaths, intersections and car parking.

Hundreds of residents shared their ideas at workshops and a pop-up shop in late May, and we look forward to further feedback when a detailed design goes on public exhibition later this year.

Meanwhile, Laurieton residents, business owners and school children banded together with Council on 21 June for a working bee to transform the intersection of Bold and Seymour streets with a marine-themed makeover.

The collaborative project included the installation of public art, planter boxes, street furniture and marine-inspired colours to create a vibrant heart of the CBD.

Special thanks go to Kendall Men’s Shed and Laurieton Men’s Shed members who created a dolphin-shaped seat and interactive boat seat, which have proved very popular.

The end result is the perfect space for the community to come together, and visitors to stop and soak up everything the area has to offer.

As well as brightening up the area and acknowledging the Camden Haven’s unique identity, the improvements are expected to attract more people to the area, increase foot traffic and have flow-on benefits for local businesses.

A MessAge FroM

thE maYorPeter besseling Last month, two important milestones were achieved, with the adoption the 2015-16 Operational Plan and Council’s Fit for the Future (FFF) submission to the state government.

The former sets a clear path for the new financial year, while the FFF submission outlines how Council would meet seven financial ratios that would have us deemed Fit for the Future, as defined by the state government.

Delivering the services within our community in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible remains Council’s firm focus.

On top of a $92 million works program, an additional $1 million will be invested in high traffic road resurfacing and rejuvenation projects.

Other notable inclusions following the operational plan submission phase include $500,000 for much-needed stormwater maintenance and $350,000 to undertake detailed investigation into a dual carriageway for Lake Road.

Council is also operating under a continuous improvement model, with a Services Review currently underway to lead the way in efficient and effective delivery of infrastructure and services.

acreative space for your imagination is the best way to describe a new free-to-use facility known as the

‘imaginarium’ at Port Macquarie library.

Whether you want to record a song, make a video or tell a story, the studio features a wide range of recording equipment and software ideal for creative minds keen to experiment or groups wanting to preserve important events.

All library members have access to the Imaginarium’s range of tools - and the opportunity to create and capture digital content to your hearts content. The only limit is your imagination.

With too many features to list, equipment includes: studio lights and a green screen; microphones; video camera; controller/sequencer; Mbox Pro; 27 inch retina display iMac and; a suite of the latest recording and editing packages.

a $6 million project to improve safety and traffic flow on Hastings River Drive is underway, with construction expected to commence during 2015. The

reconstruction of 450 metres of this busy arterial road, from Gordon Street to Aston Street, will benefit motorists, pedestrians and cyclists and ultimately improve traffic flow issues during peak times. The project to extend the dual carriageway will be undertaken in several stages and include rehabilitation work in Park Street. As regular users know, Hastings River Drive is a major arterial road providing direct access from the fringe of the CBD to the airport and Pacific Highway.

We’ve also launched a series of educational videos providing helpful hints and a behind-the-scenes look at what happens to household green waste when it leaves the kerb. in a huge boost for the Port Macquarie Hastings Hockey Association, planning is well underway for an international-size, synthetic multi-purpose pitch at Wayne Richards Park. The

new multi-use facility is part of an overall master plan for the hockey precinct and is earmarked for completion in late March 2016. Boosted by funding from a federal government Community Infrastructure Grant, the facility is expected to be an attractive drawcard for state carnivals and national training squads in the lead-up to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
