Healthcare

Dietary Manager Program 2012-2013Gain nationally-recogized credential with courses in sanitation, management, administration and nutrition. New program begins August, 2012. Program restricted to individuals employed in the food service industry. For a brochure, call 610-799-1703 in March, and request DMA information.

Medical TerminologyThis 20-hour program consists of learning medical abbreviations, prefixes, suffixes, word roots, combining forms, and plurals. Course fee is $199.

Medical Office Diploma Prepare to seek employment with insurance companies, hospitals, or private medical offices. GED or high school diploma required. Students must purchase a flash drive. Course fee is $1,268. Nurse Aide TrainingPrepare to be eligible to be placed on the Pennsylvania State Nurse Aide registry. Students must attend a mandatory Orientation Session prior to enrollment. Course fee is $800.

Pharmacy TechnicianGraduates qualify for entry level positions in the retail and hospital pharmacy setting. GED or high school diploma required. Course fee is $799.

Learn anatomy of the heart and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, and legal aspects of patient contact. All students will take CPR certification training.

Personal Trainer Certification is a 7-week, 21-hour course, that includes an internship - a promising avenue that could lead to a position in a health or fitness club – one area that seems to be sprouting new businesses on every corner.

TechnologyComputerized Bookkeeping Diploma ProgramPrepare to work as an entry level bookkeeper or in AP/AR positions. Computerized and manual bookkeeping practices. Prior accounting experience recommended. GED or high school diploma required. Course fee is $699. Computer Support Technician TrainingPrerequisite: pre-test in basic PC, reading, math, and locating information. This hybrid course, consisting of on-line, classroom, and lab instruction, will give students the skills necessary for entry level positions in the IT industry. Course fee is $5,500.

Microsoft Office Diploma Program (Available day and evening)Qualify for entry level clerical positions using Microsoft Office software. Prepare for the skills you need to succeed at work, in higher education, to obtain citizenship, or in job training programs. Civics and work topics are covered as part of the curriculum. This program is for high intermediate and advanced students. To get started in noncredit ESL classes, students must complete an ESL Information Sheet at the Donley Center and attend a placement testing session. Students interested in attending free, noncredit ESL classes must submit an application after placement testing.

ESL 1 and ESL 2Speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills are covered. These courses cover beginning to advanced levels. Tuition is $95.

Volunteer as a Tutor in the Career Pathways ESL and GED ProgramHelp adult students build their reading, writing, math, and language skills. Tutors are needed to work with students at least 3 hours per week. In order to participate, you must attend a tutor orientation and attend periodic training sessions. Classes are leveled to meet student learning needs. Instruction is designed to help students improve reading and math skills for the workplace, as well as to pass the Official GED Examination. Students in these programs will explore career paths, job readiness skills, and on-the-job skills for high priority occupations in the Lehigh Valley. To enroll, students must complete a placement test and an application. Students who are work-ready and are referred by their CareerLink Case Manager will be given priority in starting classes. Mathematics for the GED Class content focuses on problem solving using basic math operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, pre-algebra, and basic geometry. Course fee is $89 (textbook is included).

GED Preparation in Spanish Prepare to take the GED test in Spanish. Instruction will be given in Spanish and will cover all areas of the GED test: writing, reading, math, social studies, and science. Course fee is $289 (textbook is included).

Work Keys© to SuccessSharpen your skills for success in today’s workplace using the KeyTrain© system to assess and remediate areas for development in Reading for Information, Locating Information, and Applied Math for the workplace. Students who successfully complete the program receive a National Career Readiness Certificate. Course fee is $225.

Ramp It Up MathGet the help you need to find and keep a job that requires basic math skills or refresh your skills to take college placement tests. This class covers basic math computation skills, math problem solving, pre-algebra, and basic geometry. Class work will include specific workplace applications and use of the KeyTrain© on-line system. Course fee is $175.

Locating InformationThis customized course is designed to supplement KeyTrain© remediation for Locating Information, helping students improve their scores on the Work Keys© assessment. Locating Information has proven to be the most difficult for improvements as compared to Applied Math and Reading for Information. Course fee is $99.

Noncredit Spanish for Spanish SpeakersThis noncredit class is designed for individuals who are native speakers of Spanish to improve their basic reading and writing skills in Spanish. Increase your workplace marketability by developing bilingual skills for reading and writing. The class also will help students get ready for the GED Preparation in Spanish course. Course fee is $119.

TUITIONNoncredit tuition fees are the same for residents and nonresidents.

WHEN TO REGISTERLehigh Carbon Community College urges you to register as early as possible and at least one week prior to the class’s start date. Minimum enrollment is required for classes to be held; classes with inadequate enrollment are cancelled eight days prior to the start date. If you choose to register within several days of a course start date, we recommend that you call Noncredit Registration at 610-799-1197 to verify course details, space availability, location, and any special instructions.

ROOM ASSIGNMENTSTo receive your room assignment at Schnecksville within two days of your first class, please call our recorded reporting system at 610-799-1148 (Touch-Tone phone required). When prompted, enter the code corresponding to your first day of class: Monday, 1; Tuesday, 2; Wednesday, 3; Thursday, 4; Friday, 5; Saturday, 6; or Sunday, 7. If you prefer, visit Enrollment Services, AD 124, on your way to class or call 610-799-1500 for your room assignment. At Donley Center, Carbon Center, and Morgan Center, room assignments are posted at entry on night of class.

TEXTBOOKSWhen textbooks are required, they should be purchased before attending class. They can be purchased at the bookstore on the second level of the Academic Resource Center on the main campus in Schnecksville. You can also purchase books online. [Go to www.lccc.edu/bookstore] When the cost of the textbook is included in the course fee, books will be available immediately before the first class meeting: Schnecksville campus on weekdays, bookstore, Academic Resource Center, 2nd floor; Schnecksville campus on Saturdays, reception desk, Administration Building, main floor; Donley Center, reception desk; Carbon Center, reception desk; and Morgan Center, reception desk.

PARKINGOn Schnecksville campus, students may park in Lots A, D, E, F, and G. Please observe signs and avoid restricted areas. Please display portion of receipt on dashboard as directed.

REFUND POLICYIf you must withdraw from a class, you can receive a full refund, minus cost of textbook if included in course fee, provided you haveinformed Noncredit Registration in writing before the beginning of the second class. For classes that meet only once, refunds will be given only if requested prior to the start of the class. All refunds are issued by college check.

TAX DEDUCTIONYou may receive a tax deduction for expenses of continuing professional education undertaken to maintain and improve professional skills. Consult with your tax advisor for allowable deductions.

Registration InformationCANCELLATION POLICYIf your class is cancelled, we will notify you as soon as possible. You may transfer to another section of class or receive a full refund. Cancellation of classes due to bad weather is announced on major local radio stations. If the college is closed, makeup dates will be arranged through the instructor.SENIOR CITIZEN POLICYCitizens who are at least 60 years old and live in a sponsoring school district may be eligible for a 50% tuition discount. Conditions for reduced tuition are as follows:1. A senior citizen must show proof of age the first time he or she registers.2. Course must have sufficient enrollment of paying students.3. Enrollment for reduced tuition must not cause the class size to exceed enrollment limitations.4. Lab fees for consumable items must be paid by all students to the instructor at the first class. Required textbooks must be purchased by all students.5. This tuition policy does not apply to those noncredit courses in which the college incurs a cost per student or where so noted. Senior citizen registration will take place on the day a course is scheduled to begin. A class scheduled to begin in the morning may be registered for on the previous evening. Also, a senior citizen electing to pay in order to guarantee a seat in class must pay full tuition.
