The Impact Of Family Structure On Poverty*In A Two-Earner Economy
If you are a child in Boone County your odds of being in poverty are 1/16
However, if you are a child in a household with two parents your odds of being in poverty are only 1/40
But, if you are a child in a household being raised by a single mother your odds of being in poverty are 1/2.3
In other words, a Boone County child in a single mother household is about 7 times more likely to be raised in poverty than the “typical” child in Boone County and more than 16 times as likely to be in poverty than if from a two-parent household.

Boone County compares quite favorably with Indiana on most of the health benchmarks and exceeds or meets many of the 2020 Healthy People national goals
The exceptions in comparison to Indiana are:•Alzheimer’s death rate•Female breast cancer and prostate cancer.•Current drinkers

Although the Assessment suggests that good health is prevalent in Boone County, the more detailed findings which include data for various population segments show that, despite an overall positive situation, some groups, particularly those with lower income, do not fare as well.
