About CMAThe Central Music Academy exists to provide free music performance education for financially disadvantaged children in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. Our faculty members give lessons on 18 different instruments. To give the students a chance to demonstrate their musical skills to their friends and family, we hold recitals each year, and we request that each of our students attend and participate in community outreach performances and masterclasses around Lexington.

The Central Music Academy’s teachers also offer unique courses of study outside of regular private lessons. CMA has programmed jazz and improvisation classes, group guitar classes, clarinet choir, a Wee Move and Groove class for preschool-age kids, and an after-school steel band. Over the summer, the Central Music Academy hosts a World Percussion Camp, which allows students to study music theory, African and Brazilian drums, Chinese percussion, Caribbean steel pans, and “Stomp”-style musical creation (using any type of cheap household object as an instrument).

The Central Music Academy is excited to have two locations to reach

children in downtown Lexington!

To register for lessons, please submit an application through our website, www.centralmusicacademy.org.

Get InvolvedThe Central Music Academy is the only organization in

Lexington that focuses its entire efforts on providing

free music lessons to financially disadvantaged

children. If you are between the ages of 8 and 18 and

if you qualify for free or reduced lunch through FCPS,

then you qualify for free lessons at CMA. We offer

lessons on a variety of instruments (see the

back for a list of instruments offered). If you

are interested, please submit an application

through our website.
