Community, Health and Social Care
What is this group about?
• Community Safety is a very important subject for all residents. This is a way of ensuring that community concerns are recognised.
• Different from some of the other task groups in that most of the work has to be carried out by agencies e.g. Police, Housing, Fire Service etc.
• Is a very useful way of communicating with community groups about crime trends.
• Very useful way of collecting community intelligence.
Membership
• Members of the community representing a variety of different organisations.
• Neighbourhood Manager• Neighbourhood Police Inspector• Fire Station Commander• Community Development Worker• Magistrate
Task Group Work
• Ensuring that matters of concern are raised e.g. Pedestrianised area, theft of precious materials, anti-social behaviour hotspots.
• Feed into the Local Partnership Delivery Group process (multi-agency meeting addressing hotspots and individuals)
• Feed information from the Police, Fire Service and others back into the community.
• Determine the priorities for the Community Justice Court.
What next?
• Looking at additional measures for the Town Centre pedestrianised area.
• Concentrating on helping to prevent burglaries by using community networks and local intelligence to prevent and help with information.
• Promote Homewatch• Continue to feed into the Community Justice
process.
Why is this group important
• Provides regular dialogue between the Neighbourhood Inspector and members of the Community.
• Brings partners with responsibility for community safety together with residents to help address problems.
• Is useful feedback mechanism for residents.• Residents get to set the priorities for Community
Justice to ensure that Magistrates are aware of community problems and priorities.
