A glance at the complete range of HCL's Systems Integration solutions across verticals:

1. Telecom

The Telecom industry is today laying the backbone of a ubiquitous network with the

potential of connecting every electronic device on the planet. It requires diverse

technologies to be brought together, interconnected on one network, offering an

anytime anywhere service that is changing the way the world lives.

At HCL, the solutions we provide to our clients include Operation Support Services (OSS), Business Support Systems (BSS), Next

Generation Networks (NGN), Security, Embedded Solutions, Switching, Signaling, Transmission and Access Solutions, Network Design

and Mobility Solutions. HCL's Telecom SI practise works on cutting-edge technology, explicit from the fact that our deployed projects are

based on WiMax, 3G, IPTV, MPLS and Broadband Services Technology.

The solutions deployed have enabled high speed wireless access to urban and rural customers, MPLS backbone for the defence sector and

convergent billing solution for telecom service providers.

Unified Billing Solution for

transparent accounting

The customer provided a comprehensive range of telecom

services including Wireline, CDMA Mobile, GSM Mobile, Internet,

Broadband, Carrier Service, MPLS-VPN, VSAT & VoIP services. In

the existing system, interconnect calls were monitored by the

Points of Interconnect (POI); it also was used to detect call

violations, and for claiming the prescribed higher rates from

operators. This system was not efficient, resulting in delayed

revenue realisation & leakage of revenue.

HCL implemented Inter Operator Billing and Accounting System

(IOBAS), which is a Call Data Record (CDR) based computerised

billing platform that transformed its MCU based billing to a CDR-

based billing system.

The bank was faced with the prospect of increased competition from new private and public sector banks. It also faced the challenge of linking all of its branch operations into a cohesive entity to better serve its customers.

Empowering the nation: e-effort

to empower the common man

1. No method to stop/check multiple enrollment of same

person in the system

2. Difficult to monitor employment levels

3. Impossible to keep check on proxy workers

4. Ensure that payment reaches the rightful beneficiaries

5. Authentic manual maintenance of muster roll at each

jobsite

6. Co-ordination between poorly connected jobsites, Gram

Panchayat and block offices by the programming officer

To overcome these challenges, HCL Infosystems offered a

complete solution including e-Job card (smart card) to the

workers at worksite & a financial inclusion solution framework

to ensure that payment reaches the right beneficiaries. HCL has

Sector:

HCL's Solution:

e-Governance

A district in Uttar Pradesh

also developed a special kit called “HCL Finmate” for deployment

in rural environments.

HCL's e-Job card contains:

Demographic & biometric details of all the family members

willing to do unskilled work

Attendance record of the worker

Online tracker for number of days worked

Records of wages - accrued and disbursed

The solution captures the attendance of each worker through

handheld terminals (HHT) at the worksite only. Linked via GSM or

internet connectivity, the data is transferred to the Gram

Panchayat or block office. The HHT can be further used for

dispersal of wages through financial inclusion solution.

The implementation of the e-Job card reduced the multiple &

duplicate enrollments significantly. With the help of HHT it

became easy to capture regular attendance at the worksite and

helped to monitor proxy workers. Through the automated

financial inclusion solution, it was ensured that the money reached

its intended beneficiaries.

Key Benefits:

HCL's e-Governance practise provides technology solutions to government departments across the country. HCL's e-Governance

vertical is working in accordance with the National e-Governance Plan's (NeGP) vision to make all Government services accessible to the

common man in his locality.

HCL offerings in e-Governance projects span across State and Central Government MMPs (Mission Mode Projects) and include:

Property Registration State Data Centres

State-Wide Area Networks Electronic Procurement

Challenge:

Business Situation:

An ancient and sacred temple located in the hilly terrains of India.

The temple is one of the most visited places of worship in the

country attracting more than 1,000 pilgrims daily. During peak

seasons, close to 10,000 people scale the temple area for worship,

posing the biggest challenge for the officials of managing crowds

and deterring related threats. The temple's walls and pavements

were sculpted with sacred inscriptions that framed the heritage of

the temple. Hence, retaining aesthetics of the temple post

implementation of solutions was a major consideration. To add to

this challenge, darkness in the public areas was also of grave

concern. The interiors of the temples were not only dark for

normal cameras to capture activities, but also humid and hot,

making it difficult for most cameras to operate. Multitude of

illuminated spaces at the temple with numerous bright spots

adjacent to dimly-lit areas made it a difficult task to design an

effective surveillance solution.

HCL, with its expertise, designed one of its most advanced surveillance solutions that greatly enhanced the monitoring aspects in the temple. HCL's specialised solution experts designed a state-of-the-art architecture that not only offered the required surveillance aspects for the officials but also maintained the heritage & looks of the shrine by synchronizing the aesthetics of the solutions with that of the holy shrine. Special attention was paid to ensure that the disparity in illumination was overcome by careful selection of cameras & camera spots. The view in the Command & Control Centre had no bright spots or dark spots. Every activity was clearly visible & Video Analytics were very effective.

HCL Security Ltd.'s Solution:

Providing security solutions for a religious spot

Key benefits to the customer:

HCL conducted a Risk Assessment study based on the inputs given by the authorities of the temple before framing the architecture of the surveillance solution. Crucial spots for surveillance were strategically chosen & a state-of-the-art solution was designed in such a way that it balanced cost & effectiveness

The surveillance project was executed in two phases. In the first phase, surveillance solutions were implemented in the temple's queue complex to monitor the queue that started from the outer premises to the inner sanctum & back to the outer premises

Advanced choice of cameras & cabling techniques mitigated the effect of heat & humidity & offered the best of results

HCL ensured that not even a single hole was drilled in the sanctum sanctorum to preserve the heritage of the holy shrine. This earned HCL great appreciation by temple officials

Other critical locations with strategic importance were also covered in phase 1. In phase II, state-of-the-art Command & Control Centres were built to remotely monitor the activities in the holy shrine

IP-based Remote Surveillance, which was linked with advanced Crowd Management module, helped authorities manage the crowd very effectively & minimise mishaps and stampedes. Events were recorded from all of these surveillance locations

The Command & Control Centres had the facility to review an earlier event at any given point of time from the recorded media

Business Situation:

One of the country's leading engineering firms.

The firm has a network of offices in 29 cities and three manufacturing facilities at remote locations. For its remote locations, it faced a situation wherein no major ISPs were able to provide a network solution and, in fact, backed off in the initial stage. Hence, the requirement was to provide a turnkey solution by offering a single trusted Networking Service Solution for end-to-end WAN VPN Infrastructure, and also to host and support applications at the HCL Infinet Data-Centre.

HCL Infinet Ltd. is the Networking

Services arm of the HCL Group. The

Company holds an all India license to

operate as a Class “A” ISP, ITSP and NLD

service provider. Our ISP/NLD

operations are carried out through a

state-of-the-art IP/MPLS network

infrastructure that reaches out across

the country. We provide Data, Voice and

Video services, along with Internet

bandwidth services, and also offer a

complete range of Managed Network

services to enterprises across India.

HCL Infinet Ltd.

Key benefits to the customer:

Migration from Frame Relay and ISDN to MPLS VPN, thus making customer's operations secure and faster

Provided connectivity at their remote location, where no other ISPs was feasible

Migration of their Servers and Routers and Security Equipment to HCL Tier3++ Data-Centre

Provided the right hardware for efficient operations

Facilitated migration to Opex model and reduced customer's operational cost

HCL Infinet's Solution:

The biggest challenge confronting HCL was that of migrating all 29 locations from ISDN and Frame Relay Circuit to MPLS VPN. After conducting a feasibility study, HCL Infinet provided a 'last mile media and backup' solution for each location. Different bandwidth and local loop solutions were then configured for different customer divisions, as specified by their Quality of Service (QoS) requirement, comprising leased line and wireless broadband. Primary link was provided on leased line on certain locations and secondary link was provided on RF or ISDN. In some of the locales, RF was provided as primary link based on the feasibility of the area. In remote locations, a unique 'mix and match combination' of RF and leased line was provided as part of the solution.

On the Data-Centre solutions front, co-location services formed a major part of the overall solution proposed. HCL co-located a total of 48 servers at one of its Tier3++ Data-Centres which includes Baan Server, SAP Server and Production Server. Also, HCL has facilitated provision for efficient back-up services, including daily log, Baan DB on single DLT, daily full Informix data, monthly OS, Informix, Baan and SFA application.
