Thomas John Watson, Sr. (1874 – 1956)
We now know he was wrong. He over stated the number by 4.

What is Cloud computing?
Cloud computing is a Service Management
Platform that provides a transparent
infrastructure to user with near zero

What is Cloud computing?
Computing without any special hardware or software
Software as well as hardware are somewhere in the Internet
On the “client” side, all you need is any device (e.g. PC, laptop, mobile phone, TV sets,
… ) with a decent Internet connection.
According to some people it is the buzz word that repackages grid and utility computing,
both of which have existed for decades

Why the Cloud?
The cloud is a metaphor for the Internet
It is derived from its common depiction in network diagrams as a cloud outline

Cloud computing model
This model illustrates computing resources such as storage space and processing power can be remotely managed by a third party and sold to anyone at a price proportional to the amount of computing resources required
Users do not care what happens in the cloud
COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL9
What makes up the cloud?
A pool of highly scalable (elastic), abstracted infrastructure, capable of hosting customer applications
Dynamic allocation, scaling movement of applications
COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL10
Characteristics of cloud computing
You pay for what you use
Completely OS independent
You need not own and maintain your own server infrastructure or other special hardware
You need not even install any software – you would use your web browser to access services
COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL11
Advantages
Saves cost: operational, hardware and maintenance costs
Economy of scale
Highly scalable
Keeping business logic
Platform independent
Off shores processing
Speed innovation
Easy to deploy new services for global market
COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL12
Disadvantages
You are not in full control of your data
You must be online to use it
You depend on your provider
Selling globally means obeying a host of local and international laws and regulations
• Data privacy, censorship, human rights
COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL13
Security – is a matter of trust
You trust your bank that your money is safe
You trust your ISP that they do not spy on you
You might also trust your Cloud Computing services that your data is safe, secure and they do not spy on you
