Comparison of Presenters

THE ONE SHOW

The one show is a mix of gender’s and cultures to give a varied look on each reporter piece.

The ‘Couple’ is a nice friendly team which doesn’t wish to scare the viewer or make them feel uneasy, instead they want the audience to feel like ‘friends’ of the presenters.

TOP GEAR

3 ‘Blokes’ as presenters to add emphasis that it is a traditional male subject area

The trio is used in my opinion to make them look like friendly rivals rather than have just two presenters in a ‘couple’ role which would look very strange in a Car magazine show.

Comparison Of Content

THE ONE SHOW

Varied but not very in depth looks in reports

Constant feedback with guests and celeb is brought into more than one discussion

Not too threatening, not likely to offend anybody

TOP GEAR

Not so varied but very in-depth about it’s subject area

Very little celeb interaction, they have their piece and that is usually it.

Can be offensive to some viewers due to the risqué nature of some of the talk elements

The Sets

THE ONE SHOW

Bright Set Living Room feel,

couches one for couple another for guest(s)

Outlook into the city to show it’s live

A few dozen members of the public in the studio

TOP GEAR

Dark set, Similar to a garage

with a lot of ‘stats’ walls (cool wall, stars in cars, fast cars)

Several 100 members of the public in the studio

The sound

THE ONE SHOW

Jolly theme tune Non-threatning, nice

songs and old classics used in VT

TOP GEAR

Main Theme: Jessica – Allman Brothers Band

VT pieces usually have either 70’s rock/heavy metal or 00’s indie, rock and roll depending on how modern the car is usually

The Audience

THE ONE SHOW

From the episode I watched the audience did little more than provide claps and cheers but the guests would come via the crowd

TOP GEAR

Constant chatter with the audience, in fact the presenters will occasionally go off-topic to embarrass the audience members.

Also a vote for items such as the cool wall

Guests make their way via the crowd.

My Personal Opinions

THE ONE SHOW

First time watching it and found it O.K

Didn’t find all the pieces interesting but realised they were trying to cater to many different audiences

Would watch if nothing else was on.

TOP GEAR

Huge Fan of the show Not a huge

petrolhead, but I enjoy the challenges and the ‘chat’ segments of the show

Aim to catch every episode.
