1. Write a complete sentence.

2. Add a comma after the first sentence.

3. Add a joining word (conjunction).

4. Add another complete sentence and ending punctuation.

Short choppy sentences:The sun was shining. The

weather was perfect. The girls were playing soccer. They played all afternoon. The girls were tired.

The sun was shining, and the weather was perfect. The girls were playing soccer. They played all afternoon, so they were tired.

We will not use nor for compound sentences

in third grade.

She doesn’t drink milk, nor does she eat butter.

Sam likes to swim, but he does not like to dive.

Beware of the RUN-ONIf two sentences are joined together improperly, a run-on sentence will be created!
