WHAT IS COMPUTER?


ComputerComputer is an electronic programmable machine foraccepting, storing and processing data. Typically,computer performs four basic operations: it acceptsdata, processes/manipulates the data, outputsinformation, and stores data and information.

Computer is designed to perform human-orientedtasks faster and easily with the help of applicationsoftware.


WHAT IS ASSESSMENT?


Assessment or TestAssessment or test is a way of discovering (usually byquestions or practical activities), judging anddocumenting (usually in measurable terms) whatsomeone knows or can do based on predefinedbehavioural objectives. It is a process of measuringsomeone’s knowledge, skill, attitudes and beliefs.

Computer-Based Test (CBT)CBT is any form of assessment or evaluation(formative or summative assessment) that isconducted electronically with the use of informationtechnology. CBT may be conducted on a stand-alonecomputer or on a computer network (over an intranetor the Internet).

CBT, unlike Paper-Based Test (PBT), is a form ofelectronic assessment, whose conduct and gradingrequires little or no human effort.


Benefits of CBTExamination conduct with computer has advantagesover the traditional Paper-Based Test (PBT) method,ranging from improved efficiency to cost-effectiveness. The benefits include:

Faster scoring, reporting, and access to results. Accuracy, consistency and reliability of results. It

provides uniformly precise scores for test-takers. Test-takers can edit their answers on screen during

the exam without wasting ink or paper.


Benefits of CBT Cont’d The test is easy to understand and the timer and hint

functions [in some exams] allow test-takers to getthe best from their exam performance.

In some listening tests, the use of headphones forthe listening elements of tests mean that examineescan adjust the volume to suit individual needs.

Examiners and examinees don’t need ink and paper,so it saves cost.

HANDLING COMMON CHALLENGES

COMMON CHALLENGES DURING CBT & HOW TO HANDLE THEM


Handling Common Challenges Exam Tension – just don’t be worried, be

courageous. Anxiety cannot do you any good, it willonly fail you.

Lack of understanding of computer operations –acquire basic skills before you go into exam hall.

Failure of the computer or some of its peripherals,such as the keyboard and mouse – report to thetechnician in the exam hall or the invigilator withoutfear.
