Monday – Research and PlanYour challenge for this week is to create your own TV advert for a
product.
This product can be anything in your house (a football, hoody, toy, pen etc.) and you will need access to a device that can record video
and edit the video using an app (e.g. phone, tablet, Ipod, laptop, digital camera etc.).
Please do not spend any money on this if you do not have access to an appropriate device. It is just a fun, home project and we understand that this may not be possible for everyone to do at home, without the resources the school would have.
Monday – Research and PlanWhat makes a good advert?
Watch the following adverts and explain what you like and dislikeabout them (2-3 sentences each).
Remember to consider: colours, use of the camera, music, typeface (text/font), logos, voice overs, how is the product used?
Advert 1 – M&S food – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK2HDob-VSA
Advert 2 – Nerf Elite Infinus – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn8tx858cD4
Advert 3 – Adidas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sIaPgpM2v0
Monday – Research and PlanPlanning your own advert
Your advert must contain 2 or more video clips, music and some text. It should also be between 45 seconds and 1 minute 30 seconds. Any videos longer than that will be difficult to save and send. Create your own storyboard:
Tuesday – Experimenting with video editing
Today, you will be experimenting with the technology that you have to film video clips for your advert and an app that you could use to
edit.
YouCutOption for Android devices
IMovieOption for Apple devices
Tuesday – Experimenting with video editing
It doesn’t matter which app you use, so long as it has the following features:
Trim/cut video clips
Add new video clips
Add Music
Add text
Record sound
Tuesday – Experimenting with video editing
Task
Create a 10 second video containing 2 or more video clips that you’ve recorded either in the app or separately.
Experiment with all of the features the app has:- Applying filters/effects
- Applying transitions- Adding text
- Adding recorded sound
There are some tutorials you can follow on the next slide…

As videos can become quite big files, and the internet can be alittle unreliable, take 4 screenshots of your work at different
points to email over to your teacher instead. ☺

Wednesday – Filming the content for your advert
Task
Today, you will be filming the content for your TV advert – this means all of the video clips that you will need.
You need to make your advert interesting so think about the camera angles that you use and what effect they can create.
Just like yesterday, take a few screenshots of your videos to send to your teacher so that we can see the progress your making. ☺
Thursday – First (rough) editTask
Today, you will be doing a rough edit of the footage you filmed yesterday.
This means you need to import the video clips that you filmed into your app, order them and trim them
(between 45 seconds and 1 minute 30 in total).Remember that your video should be interesting to
watch without any additional effects!
Just like yesterday, take a few screenshots of your videos to send to your teacher so that we can see
the progress your making. ☺
Friday – Final editTask
Today, you will be doing a final edit of the footage you edited yesterday.
This means you can explore the more ‘fun’ features by including music, recording sound, applying filters and
effects.Remember to think about what is appropriate – what will
make your product look the best?
Once you have finished, save/export your video and then email it to your teacher. Think abut the quality you
export at – higher quality = bigger file = difficult to send ☺
Well done for all of your hard work this half term! You have been amazing and really deserve your
holiday. Have fun and stay safe ☺
