Estimados Apoderados:
As como
Atte.

Dear Parents:
We would like to share with you some information concerning the P.E. classes.
The Chilean Ministry of Education added one more pedagogical hour to the ones we offered in
previous years. So students now have three periods instead of two.
The rationale behind this is explained below :
y The high rates of obesity among chilean children portrayed in the P.E. SIMCE Test from lastyear show that at least 40% of children have problems with overweight.
y Some research (JUNAEB and others), show high levels of sedentariness among children andyoungsters which keep on growing in our society.
y Last but not least, this fact might represent a serious threat for the population in the futureto come along with drug abuse among chilean teenagers (12 years old).
Since our school follows the Ministry of Educations guidelines, we have decided to implement this
new change in our schedules. We have hired new P.E. teachers to cover all classes and we have
created the Extracurricular Department to coordinate all sports academies and clubs.
But the most important modification tries to instill in our students the values of health, choosing
healthy lifestyles and bodycare along with the development of physical skills. It also aims at
promoting teamwork, understanding and following rules, using game strategies, agreeing with
others, and viewing commonwealth as the rule of thumb among other important topics to be
developed in the P.E. class.
This is a much more holistic vision of P.E. and it places a high value on nutrition, prevention, safety
and the connection of body, soul and mind.
Thus, the organization in the P.E. class will be a little different from what we used to know. There will
be times for physical activity but there also will be times for analysis and discussion of topics on how
to lead a healthy life. All of these will be conducted according to methodological procedures related
to age level.
We look forward to having your support at home when discussing the above with your children.
Regards,
