Capturing Interest

An openings purpose is to entice the audience to continue watching the film. It must capture their interest and begin a storyline to follow. I’ve met this with an opening which hold the viewers attention but at the same time I have challenged the idea because although the audience may want to keep watching, I haven’t fully shown a clear storyline which I feel is a good thing as the audience then wants to watch to see where the film is going to go.

Establishing Characters and LocationsThe opening should establish the main characters and locations- I have developed this by using establishing shots and focussing all of the action of the opening titles around the single main character however the opening only features two peoples making other characters a mystery to follow in the actual film.

Title Sequence

Title sequences are used to list cast members, producers, distributors, directors and other associated people, companies and institutions. I have done this and have also included the production logo and the films title.

Speech and Narration

Speech or narration is usually used to keep the audience informed of what’s happening on screen- this usually gives an idea of who people are, some background into the situation and where the action is set. I developed this and used a voiceover to portray this information through a single characters point of view.

Sound Tracks

Sound tracks are usually used to set tempo and tone through the pace, volume and pitch of the music. I included a quiet, slow piano based track to play in the background of the voiceover in order to enhance the emotion of the opening.
