TERRYVILLE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
June 2016 NEWSLETTER
Dear Members & Friends of Terryville Congregational Church:
As we wind down our official program year (September-May), we are reminded of a lot
of wonderful things that happen even into June & July: Confirmation Sunday, Church
Fair, 4th Annual Church Play – Oliver!, Bingo, Vacation Bible School, Summer Concerts
at Baldwin Park, and more! I am also excited that within the month of June alone, we
have ten Confirmation students being confirmed and six children being baptized! What
wonderful celebrations we will have!
As a reminder, I will be away on Sabbatical June 27-Aug 28. Rev. Richard (Rick) Fowler
will be on-call for emergencies, and our Diaconate (Jean Goodwin, Linda Lamy, and
Roseann Hannon) will also be on-call for needs such as prayer requests and visits. Our
Called to Care team will also be available for visits. Rev. Fowler will lead worship &
Holy Communion on July 3 and August 7. For July 10, July 24, August 14 and August
28, our Diaconate is working with our Music Committee to provide “musical” Sundays (it
works out to every-other week during the summer), and on July 17, July 31, and August
21, the services will be led by the Diaconate including a sermon one on of those Sundays
by Dick Foote. Please note that all Sunday services during July and August will be at
9:00am.
Rev. Fowler may be reached for emergencies (hospital visit, death, or other crisis) at 860-
485-9287. If you need to email him a prayer request or other correspondence, his email
address is [email protected]
Our Moderator, Jerry Wunsch, as well as our Secretary and our Diaconate will be able to
reach me in case there is an extraordinary situation of which I need to be made aware. I
will be back to church and return phone, email, text and facebook messages beginning on
August 29.
Please make every effort to attend church this summer because our Diaconate and Music
Committee have worked on meaningful worship services and our Music Director,
Matthew Miskin, will surely be blessing you with his gifts.
My prayers will be with you, and please keep me in your prayers as I use these weeks this
summer to pray, spend time with family, further my education, and rest.
With Christian Love,
Rev Zack

UPDATE (Currently supporting 13 open loans - total of 58
supported)
New Loans
With additional loan repayments we were able to make two loans this month. One loan was provided to the
Yiriwali Group, who is sponsoring Seydna Oumar a Horse buyer/seller. The second loan was made to
Kashf Foundation, who is sponsoring Skindar and Educator and establisher of a school in Pakistan.
Yiriwali Group - Benena, Mali - Agriculture - Horse Sales
Seydna Oumar is a 60 year old farmer who lives in a village of Mali. He is married with seven children
aged 4 to 21 years old, four of whom go to school. Seydna Oumar has been selling horses for 30 years, and
this activity has earned him a lot of money. His dream is to become a major horse merchant and supply
these valuable animals to all local customers, both as a reflection of his country's culture and for his own
benefit. He makes his purchases in remote villages and sells the horses locally. His projected monthly profit
is 80,000 francs CFA. Slow sales are his main challenge.
Kashf Foundation - Skindar - Joharabad, Pakistan - Education Provider
Skindar is a 27-year-old, young and enthusiastic man who always wished to serve humanity. Therefore, he
established a school one year ago. There are 173 students enrolled in his school and 40 percent of them are
female students. He charges a negligible amount of tuition fee, which is affordable for students coming
from low-income families. He believes that the best anyone can do for someone is to teach them. Skindar
wants to educate more and more students, but before enrolling more students additional furniture is
required. He needs financial assistance to get the new furniture for students; an amount of PKR 100,000 has
been requested by him.
This loan is part of Kashf Foundation's effort to provide financial and technical support to schools catering
to low-income students in urban slums. With this credit, entrepreneurs running low-cost private schools can
fund the operations of their schools, pay teachers, afford capital expenditures, and improve infrastructure.
By funding this loan, you will help improve the quality of teaching methods, curricula and facilities, and
increase enrollment and retention rates at schools in Pakistan's slums.
About Kashf Foundation
Kashf Foundation is one of the leading microfinance providers in Pakistan, focused on expanding financial
access for poor women across the country. The organization’s economic empowerment program has grown
from 913 clients in 1999 to 284,653 clients as of May 2012, with a current outstanding portfolio of US$32
million.
Kashf has trained over 227,000 clients in basic financial literacy and systemized financial education since
2010, in addition to providing training in gender justice and empowerment to over 12,500 participants since
2011. This group includes clients, their husbands and adolescent boys in their communities.
Over the past 16 years, Kashf has disbursed an estimated 2 million loans. Today, it operates in 16 districts
in Punjab province and 1 district in Sindh province through a network of 157 branches. It plans to open 19
new branches to cover all four of Pakistan’s provinces.

COFFEE HOUR LIST FOR 2016
Submitted by Diane Pratt & Rev. Zack
It is felt that coffee hour is a good time to meet new members and talk with some of our old
friends. In the past, committees were assigned to a month for a coffee hour, with our new set
up there are now only three members in each group. We have tried to appeal for people to sign
up for a week, and I want to thank all those that have taken turns. We are trying to encourage
all members to take part in our social time together.
Suggested instructions for setting up are in the kitchen. When it is your turn, you will need to
get milk or half and half, things to make punch, and if you wish, a little goody to munch on. You
can be reimbursed with money in the collection basket.
If you have any questions please call Diane Pratt at her cell phone – 860-329-6401 or
email: [email protected]
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Solargraphy Images of TCC The first set of images from the solargraphy test of the TCC have been completed with one set producing an interesting silhouette of our church against the movement of the sun from June 21st. until December 11th. A second image from the east side of the church was unsuccessful due to an error in my camera design. I am taking the successful images camera from the front of the church and repeating the exposure from the east side of the church. The exposure was started on December 14th and will end around June 21st. of 2016. This image should start to show our church in a more traditional way due to the sun hitting this side of the church all day, as the front of the church faces north so this image shows it as a silhouette. The images are taken with a simple pinhole camera, in our case a simple soup can with a small sewing needle hole acting as the lens. In place of photographic film photographic printing paper is used to build up the image slowly over time. The image is taken in black and white but the photographic paper was never designed to take images this way and when the image is scanned into the computer and converted over to a positive interesting color patterns can appear due to humidity changes acting on the paper. We are going to take orders for those of you who may be interested in having a print for your home. Any profit that may come from this project will go directly to the church as a fund raiser. Right now we are thinking of a price of $5.00 for a 4 by 6 image and $8.00 for an 8 1/2 by 11 image. Rev Zack will have more information on this as we go forward. This was a very interesting and fun project and I am hoping for another great image come next June. Respectively Submitted James Hannon

ATTENTION BIBLE STUDY LOVERS!
Our Bible Study group has collectively decided to move our
weekly Bible Study from Thursdays to Mondays. Same time
and place as always – 11am in my office. This move in date is
because many of our current attendees are active in the Red
Hat group as well as the Plymouth and Prospect Seniors
groups, and many of their events take place on Thursdays. We
hope this new day will be a great way for all of us to kick off
the week! We currently have around nine in our group, and
we are always open to newcomers. We have a lot of deep
discussions as well as many laughs, sharing about our lives, and
we pray together. Throughout the year we also watch
religious-themed movies together, periodically have lunch
18
together, and do other kinds of projects such as make the ashes
for Ash Wednesday. All of us make a special bond and
thoroughly enjoy exploring the Bible together. Join us!
Have you recently moved or changed email addresses? We are
trying to update our membership list. Please call Sue in the
office or email her if you have any new information. 860-589-
0182 or [email protected]
Please be aware of your belongings at all times. Yes, we are a
church, and yet we have to be careful and mindful not to leave
purses or other personal belongings unattended. If it is a
church event, such as the fair, we will provide a locked room
where everyone can store their purses. Thank you!
THERE WILL BE NO NEWSLETTER FOR
THE MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST.
WE WILL RESUME WITH SEPTEMBER’S
NEWSLETTER.
