CONDENSER TUBE CLEANING SYSTEM
Continuous cleaning of condensers and heat exchangers maintains permanent efficiency of heat transfer without mechanical or chemical tube cleaning.
TECHNOS has developed a complete system to guarantee performance and Condenser safety, essential equipment for correct power plant operation.
CUSTOMER BENEFITS
Maximise heat transfer across tube walls
Improve Condenser vacuum
Increase unit operating efficiency and MW output
Reduce fuel consumption
Extend tube life by removing corrosive deposits
Eliminate costly downtimes and the high cost of mechanical or chemical cleaning of tubes
Reduce or eliminate the need for chemical water treatment
Respect the environment
HIGH PERFORMANCE AND HEAVY DUTY
High performance of a continuous on-line Condenser Tube Cleaning System is achieved by MAINTAINING A GOOD FLOW PATTERN throughout the circuit and particularly through the ball strainer. Circulating sponge rubber balls in the system keeps the TUBES CLEAN. TECHNOS has patented its ball strainer design, which maintains an EFFECTIVE CIRCULATIONof the sponge rubber balls and offers considerable improvements over other ball strainer designs. Each tube is CLEANED MORE OFTEN so that it is always in PERFECT OPERATING CONDITION.
FAST PAYBACK PERIOD
The benefits of maintaining the condenser tubes as clean as possible using TECHNOS’ HIGHLY EFFICIENTand reliable equipment means that the PAYBACK PERIOD for the necessary investment is VERY SHORT.

RAW WATER INDUCES FOULING
When raw water is used as a cooling medium cleaning is necessary to avoid fouling such as:
Settling of materials in suspension (silt, mud, slime) inside the tubes
Biological detritus from the presence of bacteria or marine organisms
Crystallisation of soluble elements such as calcium carbonate, calcium silicate, sulphate or magnesium salt which induce scaling
Forming of sea shell colonies
THREE MAJOR INCONVENIENCES OF FOULING
CORROSION under deposits
REDUCTION of the heat transfer capacity
DESTRUCTION of the protective film inside the tube from marine organisms such as barnacles, which leads to corrosion. The cleaner the sea water is, the more marine organisms settle.
HEAT TRANSFER EFFICIENCY
in steam turbine condensers has a direct effect on the power production. Experience has shown that an increase of 1 mbar in the condenser vacuum of a 900 MW Power Unit leads to a final loss of about 1MW of power output.
AN UNCLEANED CONDENSER
can easily loose over 10 mbars. In such a case the use of a CTCS will increase power output by more than 10 MW.
It is essential to consider the condenser like a primordial component in power production.
Therefore its efficiency should always be optimised.

HIGH EFFICIENCY
Balls are immediately collected and reinjected into the condenser inlet. Balls are extracted in the central area of the strainer (highest velocity) and not along the walls (lower velocity). Velocity generated by the TECHNOS vortex chamber is over five times the on-line velocity of water.
SELF CLEANING COLLECTING DEVICE
The Karman Vortex effect enables self cleaning of the collecting area, even without a Debris Filter upstream.
REVAMPED OR NEW
TECHNOS has installed Condenser Tube Cleaning Systems in new and existing Plants.
GRIDS
Rigid frame construction creates very sturdy collecting grids.
PERFECT SEALING
Control of both torque and position allows a perfect sealing of the grids and guarantees that no cleaning balls escape from the circuit. Also the use of one actuator for each grid prevents any mispositionning.
CORROSION PROTECTION
Special painting when noncorrosive fresh water
CuNi plated or plain stainless steel for desalination plants
Rubber lining in sea or corrosive water.

HOW DOES TECHNOS’CTCS WORK ?
Continuous cleaning of internal
tube surfaces is accomplished
by constant circulation of sponge rubber balls with a diameter slightly larger than the tube inner diameter.
These sponge rubber balls are
injected into the cooling water
inlet. The water flow carries them into the inlet water boxes, then through the tubes and finally into the ball strainer located at the cooling water outlet.
From there, they are extracted and pumped through the ball collector and back to the cooling water inlet.
The ball collector stores the sponge rubber balls prior to backwashing the strainer grids.
