confronting an evil world
DESCRIPTION
Teaching Pastor Michael Sabo teaches on Spiritual Warfare and this is part 2. It deals with the lust of the eyes. 1 John 2:15-17TRANSCRIPT
15Do not love this world nor
the things it offers you, for
when you love the world, you
do not have the love of the
Father in you.
16For the world offers only a
craving for physical pleasure,
a craving for everything we
see, and pride in our
achievements and
possessions. These are not
from the Father, but are from
this world.
17And this world is fading
away, along with everything
that people crave. But
anyone who does what
pleases God will live forever. NLT
But you belong to God, my
dear children. You have
already won a victory over
those people, because the
Spirit who lives in you is
greater than the spirit who
lives in the world.
1 John 4:4-6
5Those people belong to this
world, so they speak from the
world’s viewpoint, and the
world listens to them. 6But we
belong to God, and those who
know God listen to us.
1 John 4:4-6
If they do not belong to God,
they do not listen to us. That is
how we know if someone has
the Spirit of truth or the spirit
of deception. NLT
1 John 4:4-6
For every child of God defeats
this evil world, and we achieve
this victory through our faith.5And who can win this battle
against the world? Only those
who believe that Jesus is the
Son of God. NLT
1 John 5:4-5
The world would love you as
one of its own if you belonged
to it, but you are no longer part
of the world. I chose you to
come out of the world, so
it hates you. NLT
John 15:19
But evil people and impostors
will flourish. They will deceive
others and will themselves be
deceived. 14But you must
remain faithful to the things
you have been taught. NLT
2 Tim 3:13-14
Lust of the
Flesh
is an offer that comes from
outside of us that stirs up
sensuality in us two ways:
Lust of the
Flesh
What it is (pornography)
How it is achieved
(premarital and extramarital sex
and overeating).
Lust of the
Eyes
is an offer that comes from
outside of us that stirs up
thoughts and feelings of
discontent
Lust of the
Eyes
attempts to pervert God’s gift
of our eyes by enticing us
with things in excess or by
telling us we aren’t satisfied
with what we have
Lust of the
Eyes
The end result of the
temptation though our eyes is
dissatisfaction, idolatry and
wanting what others have.
Meditation &
Application
Short term & shallow pleasures
of the world
Eternal pleasure given to
you by God.
If you think you are standing
strong, be careful not to fall. 13The temptations in your life
are no different from what
others experience.
1 Cor. 10:12-14
And God is faithful. He will not
allow the temptation to be
more than you can stand.
When you are tempted, he will
show you a way out so that
you can endure.
1 Cor. 10:12-14
Meditation &
Application
An antidote to lust of the
eyes is THANKING GOD for
what He has already given
you and promises you in
heaven.
