What is Developmental Education?
Generally:
Coursework below the 100 level taken by students who have already achieved a high school diploma or GED but have been assessed as not ready for college-level work.
Additionally:
At some schools, AmeriCorps members may also serve with students without a GED or high school diploma or who are English language learners.
What’s your role??• Work with developmental
education faculty to plan and implement two service-learning projects, one of which must be on a National Day of Service
• Connect with developmental education students to provide resources and support
• Strengthen and build relationships on campus and in the community
Qualified Candidates• Student in good
standing at your school
• 17 years or older• A U.S. citizen, U.S.
national, or lawful permanent resident
• Serve 300 hours within one year
• Pass background check

Standards of Conduct• Demonstrate mutual
respect
• Follow directions
• Take concerns, problems, & suggestions to your supervisor/ORCC
• Do not engage in prohibited activities
• Represent AmeriCorps well
Prohibited Activities• Attempting to influence legislation
• Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes
• Assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing
• Impairing existing contracts or agreements
• Engaging in partisan political activities or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to Federal office or the outcome of an election to a State or local public office.
• Participating in, or endorsing, events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, proposed legislation or
elected officials.
• Religious instruction or worship services
• Providing a direct benefit to any • business organized for profit• labor union• partisan political organization• noncompliant non-profit • organization engaged in religious
activities unless the position is not used to support those religious activities
• Providing abortion services or referral
• Conducting or funding voter registration drives
Grievance Policy• First bring concerns to your
supervisor/ORCC
• Bring fraud or criminal activity to Inspector General of CNCS
• Refer complaint to immediate supervisor within 7 days
• If not resolved work with ORCC/Oregon Volunteers
• If not resolved, seek resolution through Alternative Dispute Resolution within 45 days of occurrence
• Deadline of 1 year after occurrence
Restrictions on Fundraising & Provisions
FUNDRAISING• Members can only
fundraise if the money is directly in support of their program
• Fundraising includes in-kind donations, cash donations, and grants.
• No federal grant writing
• 30 hours (10%)
PROVISIONS• Members cannot
duplicate an activity that is already available in the locality of the program
AND
• Members cannot displace an employee or position
Release From ServiceCompelling Personal
Circumstance• Disability, serious illness, or
death of self or family member
• Relocation of a spouse
• Natural disaster
• A strike
• Non-renewal or premature closing of the project
• Member can receive a pro-rated education award
Cause
• Violating Standards of Conduct
• Dropping out for any reason not listed to the left
• Member will no longer receive benefits or an education award.
• Member may be suspended for up to 30 days pending investigation.

Disciplinary guidelines Group A
• Act professionally and ethically
• Follow site supervisor’s and ORCC’s instructions and perform responsibilities to the best of your ability
• Adhere to dress codes
• Notify Site Supervisor of intent to be late or absent within 30 minutes of scheduled start time - must have reasonable cause
• Follow all AmeriCorps C2C policies/procedures
• Wear AmeriCorps service gear while at the Host Site or in the community while performing responsibilities as an AmeriCorps Member
• Do not use inappropriate language (i.e. profanity)
Group B
• Do not fraternize with college student mentors, mentees, Site Supervisors, or other participants of the Program
• Do not falsify time logs or other program records
• Abide by Civil Rights and Non Harassment Policy & Drug Free Work Place Act
• Do not have unexcused absences
• Do not engage in any activity that may physically or emotionally damage other Members, students, mentees, Site Supervisors, staff, or other people from the community
• Follow all local, state, and federal laws
• Notify Site Supervisor/program staff immediately of criminal arrest/conviction while serving as a Member
Limitation on fraternization
• No non-professional relationships including:• Intimate/sexual relationships
• Borrowing or lending money, automobiles, or other personal property
• Engaging in financial or business dealings, or acting as an agent or sponsor with any commercial services
• Allowing services to be performed (compensated or uncompensated) that have no reasonable connection with AmeriCorps Member activities
• Gambling for goods, services, or money
• Any activity and/or relationship that, in the judgment of the Corporation State Director, may be reasonably perceived to undermine discipline, good order, and/or morale
• Socializing that might lead to the perception of a relationship or overtures to activities listed above
