Known as pink guava or jambu batu Tropical fruit from the family of Myrtaceae which

often found in a tropical countries (Burkill et al.,1997).

Often used as food, juice and folk medicine. Lately, there are many research has been done on its bark, roots, and fruits (Romeo et al1997).

This study will determine how P.guajavawill treat

    obesity in obese induced rats.

    Literature Review

Studies done on the leaves indicated that it's aqueous extract haveanti hyperglycemic and hyperlipidemic effect on type II diabetespatient.

Ingestion of guava leaf tea will reduce the blood glucose level andtotal cholesterol (Deguchi & Miyazaki, 2010).

It is also a good source of fiber that contribute to the use of its fruitas anti diarrhea by relaxing the smooth muscle of intestine.

Its fruit puree has been confirmed to have anti hypertensiveproperties and has lipid lowering effect on high fat diet induced rats(Ayub et al., 2010 ) and anti inflammatory properties (Murugadan etal., 2010).

    Problem Statement

Malaysia is one Asian country that possess thehighest number of obese communities compared toother Asian country and obesity is the highest causethat leads to death in Asia. (world health organization)

Obesity affect both children and adults medicalhealth and mental.(Braet et al. 2005)

The use of drug in treating obesity has adverseeffects in some individual and the use of plantmedicine in treating obesity is still new.

    Significance of Study

There is less study focusing on the leaf of P.guajava. Many research done are focusing moreto the puree of this local fruit.

The importance of the leaf can be seen throughthe usage of P. guajavaleaf as traditionalmedicine mainly in South East Asia.

Gives the insight on how obesity in human canbe reduced by using safer and traditional way

    rather than surgery or drugs.
