Welcome

New Temple Chambers is a Commercial, Chancery and

Construction set of Barristers’ Chambers, providing

first class legal advice, drafting and advocacy in

construction law and dispute resolution. Chambers

has significant legal expertise and knowledge in all

aspects of construction law and dispute resolution.

Chambers provides expert legal advice, drafting and

advocacy in all aspects of construction law and dispute

resolution and advise on all standard forms of

construction contracts (JCT, NEC3, ACA Partnering

Contracts, GC/Works, IChemE, MF/1 and FIDIC) or

bespoke forms of contract.

Team

New Temple Chambers is led by the Head of

Chambers, Charles Edwards, who is a first class

Construction Law and Dispute Resolution Barrister.

Charles was called to the English Bar in 2002 by

Middle Temple, is an accredited TECBAR Adjudicator

and a TECBAR Dispute Board Member on TECBAR’s

panel of Adjudicators and Dispute Boards. Charles has

a Master’s Degree from the University of Cambridge

(Departments of Engineering and Architecture) and

also a Master’s Degree from the Centre of

Construction Law at King’s College London in

Construction Law and Arbitration.

Instructing Chambers

Chambers accepts instructions from construction and

engineering organisations including contractors, sub-

contractors, employers, consulting engineers,

architects, investors, developers, local authorities,

government organisations, corporate clients and

international organisations. Chambers accepts

instructions from solicitors as well as direct public

access instructions under the Public Access Scheme.

Construction Law and Dispute Resolution Experience

A selection of Charles’ previous experience includes:

NEC3 Contract/Interpretation of Contract

Advised on the interpretation of contract conditions

based on an amended NEC3 contract in connection

with a project associated with the 2012 Olympics in

London.

Adjudication for a top 5 UK Contractor

Acted for the Referring Party (a top 5 UK construction

company) in adjudication proceedings against a large

multi-national plc for breach of contract and non-

payment in connection with building and

infrastructure works.

High Court (Technology and Construction Court)

Drafted statements of case for a dispute involving

breach of contract, professional negligence and

damages on a proposed new build development.

Drafting - Bespoke Contract

Drafted bespoke subcontract to be used by a main

contractor for all their major construction projects to

ensure the correct allocation of risk and liability.

Adjudication/Payment Dispute/Extension of Time

Acted for the Referring Party (main contractor) in

adjudication proceedings in connection with a

payment dispute with regards to a new build

restaurant, offices and industrial buildings. This

matter involved breach of contract, alleged defective

works, non-payment, extension of time disputes and

the unlawful deduction of liquidated damages.

JCT Design and Build Contract – GMP Contract

Advised and drafted amendments to a JCT design and

build standard form of contract for use on a major

new build city centre residential development in order

to achieve a Guaranteed Maximum Price Contract

(GMP).

High Court (Chancery Division) – Payment

Dispute/Winding-up Petition - Insolvency

Advised on non-payment for construction work

carried out under a framework agreement, the

interpretation of the terms and conditions included

within the bespoke framework agreement, a proposed

winding-up petition in the High Court and the best

strategy to be adopted in order to achieve the client’s

objectives.
