Planning the FIAM sensor system, hardwareand softwareThe Fixed Infrastructure Asset Monitoring (FIAM)hardware and software portfolio of thevoestalpine SIGNALING Group iscomprehensive. Taking particular note of “cybersecurity” and “safety”, we plan appropriatesensor systems, hardware and software, analysisand reporting tools as well as datacommunication either tailor-made in thecustomer's IT structure or as hosted serviceswithin voestalpine with “customer access” or asan integrated component in the IT landscape ofhigher-ranking third party systems. In this area,we combine specific railway expertise withRAMS, IT and cyber security knowledge.

Recording of existing systems for theretrofitting of FIAM systemsIf existing systems (signal boxes, turnouts, trackcircuits, railway crossings, rail expansion joints)are equipped or converted with diagnosticsystems (conversion: hardware upgrade), it isusually necessary to inspect and analyze thecorresponding existing systems on site. Inparticular, it may be necessary to record thespace available in the signal box and in theoutdoor installations to be able to plan thesensor system and data acquisition/dataprocessing and in order to gauge the availableenergy supply and communication options. Ourteam records these data on site, adds customerinformation to it and takes this as a basis todevelop an appropriate proposed solution forthe customer.Customizing the FIAM software

By request, workshops are carried out with thecustomer (or with certain user groups) to thendefine specific additional functionalities thatare then programmed accordingly by softwareexperts and adopted in the diagnostic solution.

Training for administrators and key usersWe offer sustainable and comprehensivetraining sessions for administrators and keyusers, which combine practical and theoreticalknowledge and ensure they have the necessaryknowledge of hardware and software, theiroperation as well as their parametrization. Inparticular, however, the training is about usingthe software to increase system availability andto be able to specifically plan maintenancemeasures. Afterwards, the participants shouldbe able to pass on the in-depth knowledge toother users or be able to act as a key user andcontact partner internally.

Training for users, technicians & servicepersonnelWe offer sustainable and comprehensivetraining sessions for technicians and servicepersonnel, which combine practical andtheoretical knowledge and ensure they have thenecessary knowledge to ensure maximumavailability of components while using thediagnostic systems. The training sessions can bebooked at the global training center in St.Pölten, Austria or at the individual companies atthe respective location (Zeltweg/Fareham). Ifnecessary, theory and practical training sessionscan also be held at the customer's location.

Shipping and transport logistics to theconstruction sitevoestalpine SIGNALING Group has businessrelationships in over 50 countries around theworld and, in the course of market development,has established internal competences for thehandling of product and system transports.They use first-class logistics service providers totransport diagnostic and monitoring systems tothe site of installation while complying withquality, time and cost targets. This is done inclose cooperation with the client in order toensure that local specifics and directives areobserved.

Installation of software and the hardwarecomponentsOur experienced technicians (mechatronics/electrical equipment and electronics as well astelecommunications experience) install sensor

systems and hardware components properlyand professionally. This package includes wiringand setting up data communication. Oursoftware specialists set up the software on theprepared server structure and carry out functionand security checks as part of the installation.

Commissioning and site acceptance test (SAT)of the diagnostic systemsThe service technicians commission thediagnostic systems and are supported by our in-house technicians who ensure the perfectinterplay of sensor system-hardware-datacommunication-software by telephone. Duringcommissioning, weaknesses of the outdoorinstallations (e.g. turnout) are often discoveredby our experienced service technicians. Theirimmediate correction often contributes toimproved availability.

Sensor system and hardware serviceInspection and maintenance of the sensorsystem and recording electronics based onperiodic remote (and self) diagnostics of thecomponents. A contract's scope of servicesincludes the repair and replacement ofcomponents. The components themselves arecharged to the customer (at least outside of thewarranty period).

Software serviceIn addition to the elimination of bugs andgeneral software updates, software updates onthe diagnostic servers and signal box computersare included which are available due to in-house further product development. These willbe carried out after positive consultation andconfirmation from both parties, provided thefunctionality of the hardware package issufficient.

Second Level SupportBy default, our technicians and analysis expertsare available Monday to Thursday between8:00 am and 3:45 pm as well as Fridays from8:00 am to 12:30 pm. On the one hand, thisconcerns user problems with the software. Onthe other hand, this concerns telephone supportin interpreting diagnostic messages.

Third Level SupportIf a system error cannot be remedied viatelephone support, a qualified servicetechnician from voestalpine SIGNALING will besent out to solve the problem on site. 5 suchdeployments per year are typically included in aservice contract. (If more or less is agreed is amatter of negotiation.)

Software as a Service (SaaS)Due to its domain expertise in the field of railwayinfrastructure, the voestalpine SIGNALINGGroup is the pioneer in the development ofmonitoring solutions for external signal-technical systems as well as track systemcomponents. In addition to using suchmonitoring tools for its own maintenanceactivities, the monitoring expertise can beprovided to the end customer via “Software asa Service” (SaaS). voestalpine SIGNALINGevaluates the recorded data and takes it as abasis to develop specific state and serviceinformation, such as:
