We have a global networkof sales offices, storageand distribution facilities,and a growing numberof manufacturing sites allover the world.

Manufacturing in Saudi ArabiaSABIC’s manufacturing facilities are concentrated in twohigh-tech industrial cities in Saudi Arabia. Al-Jubail wasour first center of production; we transformed it froma quiet fishing village into a world-leading industrial site.Yanbu, on the Red Sea coast, is our newest site, and thefocus of many of our expansion efforts. We’ve investedtens of billions of dollars in these two sites, and continueto invest heavily, to keep them at the cutting edge ofproduction technology.

Almost all our 18 affiliate companies now have theirmanufacturing operations at Al-Jubail and Yanbu. Theseinclude the Saudi Methanol Company (AL-RAZI), the largestsingle-site chemical-grademethanol producer in theworld; and the Saudi Iron and Steel Company (HADEED),the largest steel producer in the Middle East. Affiliatessuch as the Arabian Petrochemical Company(PETROKEMYA) and the Saudi Petrochemical Company(SADAF) are some of the largest andmost diversifiedpetrochemical manufacturing plants in the world. It isthanks to them that we produce such a wide range ofhigh-quality products.

Manufacturing in EuropeSABIC Europe, headquartered in Sittard, The Netherlands,operates state-of-the-art manufacturing complexes atGelsenkirchen in Germany, Geleen in the Netherlands, andTeesside, UK. These operations allow us to serve ourEuropean customers better.

An average consumer in a supermarket anywhere in theworld would be amazed at howmany of the goods liningthe shelves are made with SABIC’s petrochemicalproducts. Everyday essentials such as clothing,kitchenware and detergents are made using our products.Luxury items that we take for granted, like computers andperfume, are also dependent on our petrochemicals.SABIC fertilizers help to stock the aisles with nutritiousfood, andmany other items, from shampoos to freshmeat, are packed in hygienic plastic containers madewith our polymers.

Outside the supermarket, SABIC’s tough plastics areused tomake everything from aerospace componentsand vehicle parts to clean water pipes andmedicalequipment. Our metals make washingmachines andfridges, and are used in construction projects all overthe world, giving people jobs and shelter. Our productshelp cars to runmore cleanly, to cool people downwhen they’re too hot and to keep things from freezingin the cold and ice. It’s easy to see how themodernindustrialized world runs on SABIC’s products.

We divide our output into six business units. Each oneoversees a different kind of product, making sure thatSABIC’s standards of quality, safety and efficiency arefollowed in everything we do.

Our products

Intermediates: a vital linkIntermediates are chemicals that link the crude oil and gasthat come out of the ground and the consumer productswe all rely on.

We produce four different sorts of intermediates: FiberIntermediates, Chemical Intermediates, Industrial Gasesand Linear Alpha Olefins. All use SABIC’s basic chemicalsas rawmaterials to make products valuable to othermanufacturers — including SABIC’s own advancedoperations. These manufacturers then produce thegoods we know and recognize from daily life.

Themost important product group that our FiberIntermediates division make are glycols. These versatilechemicals are used tomake polyester, paint, antifreezeandmuchmore. We are the largest producer ofmonoethylene glycol in the world.

Our Chemical Intermediates division produces chemicalswhich are important to other manufacturing processes.These include ethylene dichloride (used tomake PVC) andcaustic soda, which has a range of industrial uses includingpaper and textile production.

Engineering thermoplasticmaterialsSABIC Innovative Plastics produces newmaterials andtechnologies that drive changes in the design and use ofproducts throughout the consumer, electrical, automotiveand healthcare industries globally. SABIC InnovativePlastics produces resins, films and sheet.

Basic chemicals: the building blocks ofmodern lifeBasic chemicals are the fundamental ingredients of manyof the products on which we depend in everyday life.Basic chemicals are simple, useful substances: almost allgoods made with polymers depend on them, and they’realso vital to the production of more advanced commoditychemicals. We rely on basic chemicals in our otherbusinesses to make valuable products such asintermediate chemicals, polyolefins and polyester.Basic chemicals are the foundation of our success.

The three basic chemicals groups are olefins, oxygenatesand aromatics. Olefins are usedmainly to make plasticssuch as PVC; oxygenates are used to improve fuels andmake solvents; and aromatics are usedmainly to makepackaging, fabrics and bottles.

Thanks to a ready supply of rawmaterials for our basicchemicals, most of our factories based in Saudi Arabia,at Al-Jubail, Dammam and Yanbu, take advantage ofthese resources, although SABIC Europe also gives usstrategic production capacity in a very importantmarket.We are now one of the world’s biggest exporters ofbasic chemicals.

Basic Chemicals is the largest of our business units,responsible for over 40% of SABIC’s total output. Everyyear, we producemore than 23million metric tons ofbasic chemicals, and we are one of the world’s fourbiggest producers of olefins.

Our products

Polymers: materials for lifePolymers are themost versatile materials in themodernworld. They are used tomake everything from foodpackaging and bottles, to car parts, buildingmaterials,water pipes, diapers and clothing.

Polymers can be designed to have a wide variety ofproperties — some, for example, are heat-resistant, somemelt easily, others are rigid, while still others can bemadeinto fibers. This is why plastics, which are made frompolymers, are so useful. They are an economic way ofproducing vital goods that would be impossible to makein other materials. Polymer products are helping to raisethe standard of living for people across the world.

SABIC produces an unrivalled range of plastics and fibers,including five of themost popular plastic materials,specifically polyethylene, polypropylene (known as“polyolefins”), polystyrene, PVC andmelamine.We also produce polyester, the world’s most popularsynthetic fiber.

All the materials produced by our Polymers business unituse as their rawmaterials chemicals made by other SABICunits. Through constant investment in research, we’refinding new uses for plastics for our customers worldwide,and are also helping tomake them environmentally safer.

SABIC’s polymers are mainly produced by our affiliatesin the Arabian Peninsula. Amongst others these includethe Arabian Petrochemical Company (PETROKEMYA), theArabian Industrial Fibers Company (IBN RUSHD) and theSaudi Yanbu Petrochemical Company (YANPET) and IbnHayyan Plastic Products Company (TAYF).

SABIC Europe alsomakes polyethylenes and polypropylenes,supplying its products to customers worldwide. Expansionplans mean our capacity to produce polymers will risesignificantly in the coming years.

Specialty products: focusing on adding valueAs part of our long-term growth strategy, we’ve beenlooking for new ways of creating high-value products.In 2006, we set up our Specialty Products strategicbusiness unit to develop andmanufacture high-qualitychemicals for specialist markets.

SABIC Innovative Plastics, acquired in 2007, with a 75 yearhistory of specialty materials, added advancedthermoplastic materials to our range of offerings. Thesematerials meet the needs of customers in industries suchas electronics, automotive, electrical, healthcare,transportation/aviation, infrastructure and newmarketslike nanotechnology, alternative energy and suitability.SABIC Innovative Plastics’ global Application TechnologyCenters develop innovative solutions for our diverse andextensive customer base — nomatter what the challenge.All specialty products are innovative petrochemicalderivatives designed for technologically demandingapplications. Our Research and Technology division worksclosely with customers to make sure we give themwhatthey need.

Specialty products include bisphonal A, acetone,ethanolamines, ethoxylate, choline chloride,polycarbonates and dimethyl formamide. In Saudi Arabia,our new affiliate the Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Company(SAUDI KAYAN) will initially produce a total of around500,000metric tons a year of all these products. As ournew production facilities come online, however, we willexpand our range and our capacity to take advantage ofthe newmarkets and the emerging technologies whichneed the specialty products we can supply.

Our products

Fertilizers: helping to feed peopleThe world’s most useful artificial fertilizers — ammonia,urea and phosphates — can bemade from naturalpetroleum gas andminerals, and SABIC fertilizers arehelping farmers to feed a hungry world. Fertilizersimprove crop yields and provide nutritious food for ourtables; with an increasing population and demands onthe available land growing, SABIC is helping to face thechallenges of a changing world.

Our Fertilizers business unit makes urea, ammonia,phosphate and liquid fertilizers at our threemanufacturing affiliates, the Saudi Arabian FertilizersCompany (SAFCO), the Al-Jubail Fertilizer Company(AL-BAYRONI) and the National Chemical FertilizerCompany (IBN AL-BAYTAR).

We are one of the largest producers of fertilizers in theworld, with a capacity of around 8million metric tonsannually. SABIC supplies all of Saudi Arabia’s urea andmeets almost all of its phosphate and ammoniarequirements. We are also a leading supplier to theFar East, Africa, Australasia and the United States, andare the world’s biggest exporter of granular urea.

Metals: constructing themodernworldSABIC beganmanufacturing steel in 1983. Since then,our metal products have played amajor role in theindustrialization of the Middle East and have been usedin some of themost significant and exciting constructionprojects of recent times, including the Burj Al-Arab hotelin Dubai and Chep Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong.

The Saudi Iron and Steel Company (HADEED) is a whollyowned SABIC subsidiary. It manufactures both long andflat steel products and is the leading steel producer inthe Gulf region. Long steel is used in girders and wire rodsand is mainly used in the construction industry. Flat steelforms panels, ideal for making oil drums, car parts andhousehold appliances.

Our Metals SBU also looks after SABIC’s other metalsoperations. These are the joint-venture companiesAluminum Bahrain (ALBA), the Gulf Aluminum RollingMill Company (GARMCO, also in Bahrain) and SABAYEK,at Al-Jubail, which makes silico- and ferro-manganesefor aluminum and steel production.

Our Metals business unit is growing in prestige thanksto its technologically advanced products and customerfocus. Soon we will be producing over 5million metrictons of metal products a year.

We established our overseas centers so that we don’tmiss out on the world’s intellectual capital. Our satelliteresearch centers are also there to give on-hand supportto our customers, wherever they may be.
